HELLO HIVE
Irrigation farming is a very old approach to farming that has made farming to be possible all year long. Some crops especially annual crops like maize can be cultivated twice a year by the help of this system.
Small rivers tend to dry up during dry seasons and this phenomenon is very common with small rivers around parts of the world where the heat coming from the sun in this regions of the world is hot.
Some rivers don't completely dry up and this allows farmers to cultivate different crops at areas close to the river, that way they can easily supply water either manually using buckets or mechanically using specially designed machines to consistently supply water to their farms.
There is a river that is in close proximity to my farm and this river does not completely dry before the raining season and some farmers like me are using that opportunity to cultivate fluted pumpkin close to the river bank that way we can easily access water whichever way we feel is cheap and convenient for us .
The price of flutted pumpkin leaves that is also called ugwu leaf by locals around do increase during this period since the plant itself needs water and a good soil to thrive in and the limited water supply chain during this period means that there will be a drop in production which will result to increase in the price and also an increase in demand.
Most of this farmers divert to cultivating other things once they see that the raining season has started automatically means that large scale farmers of this plant would start planting and then it will result in the abundance of this which is economically not favorable to some of this farmers.
