Fried Banana is one of the common way of cooking banana turning it into a sweet and delicious merienda. It is so common among Filipino people. You can find this food being sold in the canteen, along the streets and even you can cook it for your family.
My mother is a fried banana vendor in our school back then. My father will be the one to cook it and my mother will sell it in our school canteen and sometimes she even sell it within our Barangay.
During weekends, there were times that we wanted to eat fried banana and our parents will cook some for us. This is also a time for helping and learning. We help in preparing banana and they will let us see and observe how to cook it until we learn how to do it.
Some time our parents wasn't around and we have a lots of ripe bananas. We decided to cook and I as the eldest will be the one to cook it and my younger siblings sell it on our neighbors and to the people of our Barangay.
Fried Banana became a part of our life. It also helped our parents to raise us until we were grown up.
Oh, that's a part of my life's story. Anyway, for today's blog I will share to you how to cook FRIED BANANA.
1 group of banana
1 tablespoon brown sugar
Cooking Oil
Step 1. Prepare banana (we call it cardava or Saba banana) by peeling it.
Note: Don't use over riped banana as it will absorb a lot of oil.
Step 2. In a pan, put enough cooking oil that could cook your banana so you won't have a lot of excess oil. Let it boil.
Step 3.Put one tablespoon of brown sugar in the boiling cooking oil. Spread it on the pan evenly. Wait until the sugar will boil and you will noticed it is going up slowly.
Step 4. When the sugar is floating, you can now put the banana. You can cook the whole banana like what I did or you can also slice it horizontally or vertically as you wish.
Step 5. Let it stay for a while and when it turns red, you can now turn it upside down and wait for a few minutes until the sugar is evenly distributed to the bananas. Don't overcook because it will taste bitter if you do.
You can also put some sesame seeds to it as what my parents did but this time I don't have sesame seeds.
Step 5. Your fried banana is now ready to be served. Enjoy it while it's hot. You can put it into stick and you will have a banana cue.
It is easy right? You can try this fried banana recipe soon. I just cooked this for my family's merienda one afternoon. I'm happy that my son and my husband like it. We also share some to our neighbor.
