Hello everyone
How are you today ? I hope and pray, we are all always given health and also happiness in living this life. I am also very happy, given the time and opportunity to be able to share my stories and experiences in the Homesteading Community. It is an honor to be able to contribute to this community, and I hope my story this time can inspire all my friends.
As friends know, nowadays modern life is very fun and amazing. Every day, we get new knowledge and information. Internet also allows us to connect with each other easily and today's technology also allows us to get great things.
Technological advances and the ease of life nowadays, should not make us complacent. Many people choose to try the homesteading lifestyle as their life choice. In simple terms, homesteading is a lifestyle of self-sufficiency, when individuals try to make ends meet independently. The method chosen can be raising livestock to get eggs, meat and milk or farming to get vegetable crops.
One of the popular and popular farming methods today is the hydroponic method. As my friends know, I have been doing agricultural activities with a hydroponic system for several years. I do farming using the remaining free space in my house. I consume the vegetable crops to meet my vegetable needs, and I sell some of them to get additional profits.
Several times, I was invited and invited by schools or related agencies to provide training and introduction to gardening and farming with hydroponic systems. As I did some time ago, I was invited to one of the Islamic Boarding Schools located in Medan Labuhan District, Medan City.
I came to the Islamic Boarding School around 2 pm. I brought two PVC hydroponic installations ordered by the school and helped teach students about the hydroponic system.
My impression when I first came to this Islamic Boarding School was very positive. I really like the initiative of the students who come to help me to lift the items to be used for this training activity. It's rare, in this era to find people who want to help without having to be asked first. I think teachers and schools have given very important moral lessons in their lives.
The first part of introducing this hydroponic system is by assembling this PVC hydroponic installation. The process of assembling this hydroponics looks to be an exciting activity for the students. I try to give instruction and teaching in as simple language as possible and not try to bully these students.
After this hydroponic installation can be installed perfectly. I tried to educate male and female students at this Islamic boarding school with some additional materials. For this short training, I asked the school not to conduct the training indoors. I prefer to do direct training with outdoor tools so that it is more spacious and attractive.
One thing I am grateful for when conducting training at the Annur Prima Islamic Boarding School. It seems that the students here already know the basics of hydroponics. In fact, from the results of my questions and answers to the students here. Several students have tried gardening with a hydroponic system at home. They use plastic bottles and several other media for farming with a hydroponic system.
Because of that, I am grateful that I don't need to start introducing hydroponics from the bottom. From the teachers, at the school there are subjects of creativity and introduction to nature. One of them is farming activities with a hydroponic or conventional system. Students are also not fixated on grades or other academic subjects. I see, students do what they are interested in well. Whether it's sports, art, scientific work or farming like this.
In my opinion, ideas or programs like this are very well organized by educational institutions such as high schools or elementary schools. We know that vegetables are food products that are cheap and easy to find in traditional markets or conventional markets. However, when we start to grow our own, get the benefits of the crop of vegetables that we grow. We participate to make the environment better.
In addition, teaching farming to students can provide new and fun activities for them. We know, juvenile delinquency is often happening in our environment. In Indonesia, the country where I currently live. Social problems regarding delinquency or criminality from children to adolescents have become a topic of discussion since now. In many cases, teenagers commit crimes because of wrong associations or not being able to channel their enthusiasm properly.
I hope, when students understand and want to grow vegetables with a hydroponic system. These students can fill their free time well, they don't need to go out of the house to do activities such as smoking, drugs etc. They can work together to grow vegetables with a hydroponic system. Who knows, from a small group of students, a large and potential hydroponic vegetable business will be created.
