Ever since I started homesteading it's become a bigger passion of mine to support local farmers and businesses in my area. What's great about this is you often get wonderful fresh and amazing tasting produce compared to buying it at some big chain super market. For any food I'm not growing on my homestead I do my best to source locally. One way I do this is by owning a farm share. Each week I get produce I can pick up from the local farmer to fill my fridge. I did a quick video of this in my Kitchen Tour Vlog where I show you all the fresh produce I get. I will admit a good amount of it goes to my chickens lol
Today I was out getting gas for the car and filling up a few cans to bring home for work on the homestead when I saw this huge truck filled with melons! These melons were so vibrant in their color and one I've never seen before had me walking over to check it out. That's when I ran into the owner of the truck who I found out is a local hunter and farmer in the area. We got to talking about his farm and I asked if they were for sale, he pleasantly said yes.
The melon I've never tried before is the big yellow one in the picture. I'm not sure what it is but when I cut it open and taste it I'll let you know! When I turned around to walk back to my car I was surprised to see a line had formed behind me as more people at the gas station saw me buy a few and quickly ran over to get some themselves. The guy was overwhelmed with how many people wanted melons. Simple acts of kindness such as this are what drive me every day. I firmly believe in supporting local and helping each other whenever you can. The good feeling that overcomes you from doing so is worth so much.
