Construction - table outlet crack in floor1 crop Feb. 2023.jpg

We started several weeks ago trying to close up the cracks in the bamboo floor in the dining room. There had been a very large one next to this floor outlet. It had buckled up and the locking tongue had come apart on the boards.

The contractor had been using shims (on right) but he designed and built these tiny floor jacks. They work horizontally between the floor boards and the wall. We were able to close the big gap by the floor outlet, once we’d unscrewed it from the subfloor.

The gap had very nearly closed, re-engaging the locks on the edges of the boards with no help from us. The floor now lies flat again. There’s still a small gap but that should close when he tightens the jacks next time.

The second dining room crack, by the corner of the kitchen counter got much smaller but didn’t close up. You can see the lock part still here. I think the framing from the counter is holding it open. We’ve not yet figured out how to deal with it.

We spent a good deal of time messing with all this before he went down to the root cellar.

He got the supports for the 3 shelves built but quit early before he put them up. He will be back by the weekend to get them up, mess with the dining room floor some more, and perhaps get the last section on the east wall started.
