It's baby Erica first Christmas, I made her a colourful ball dress

Hello Needleworkers!

The demand for Christmas dresses is on the rise now, and everyone especially ladies and little girls wants their dresses to be done early before the rush week which is usually during the few weeks before Christmas in the month of December, fashion designers always work till exhaustion these days, but what can we do, it's our job to put smile on people's faces through our craft. Before all the girls I plan to make a dress for, I choose to start with the baby since it's going to be her first Christmas, and today, I'll share with you all the dress-making process of baby Erica's dress, whom we often refer to as a rainbow baby and that inspired the chosen fabric which is a colorful green tulle.

Wonder why she is referred to as a rainbow baby, that's because she was conceived a few months after her parent lost a previous baby to SIDS(Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) It was a very painful demise losing a 6 weeks old baby just after christening, we are thankful baby Erica came at the right time as a comforter to her parent, she is 10 month old now, very energetic and lively baby, adorable is an understatement. Her mum insisted on a rainbow fabric, to compliment how she visualized her daughter and I'm glad she found the fabric perfect for that, a very light green background tulle with different colors and I knew just the perfect dress for it, a simple ball gown will look just perfect for baby Erica, a very lightweight gown as she is still a baby and yet to start walking.

I started by cutting the upper dress pattern using the main tulle, and Satin as the background

Next, I joined the front and back pattern by the shoulders,

For the sleeves, I cut out a semi-circle-like shape, doubling the needed armhole measurement, and also using the satin as the background of the tulle.

Next, I gathered the sleeve around the armhole after joining the shoulders

For the lower part of the ball dress, I cut out a flare using the waist circumference as the radius, then gathered the cut-out tulle around the flare satin

Finally, I joined the upper side of the dress to the lower tulle area, covering the tulle beneath with the main colorful tulle, and also added a matching zipper to the back, and baby Erica's ball dress is ready.

Beautiful, isn't it? I got it delivered to her and her mum sent me a picture of her, it was dark already, I'm glad if fits and she absolutely loves the dress.
