Tardis Lights, Weeding, Irrigation, Lots More Weeds, Meeting and Dinner Out - Tuesday

in #hive-114308last year

Yesterday morning R was home from school as he had a pretty gnarly cough that ended up mostly going away by mid-morning. We stuffed him full of Vit C and he seemed to be only lightly phased by the whatever it was that had him feeling that way. I headed out to the Tardis while it was still cool to put the lights up. I had to pull them off the metal rungs of the conex then I fastened them to the tops of the shelving legs.

It limits the top shelf use a little bit but we have ample space available now so I don't think it will be an issue. The lights were the perfect length still and I didn't have to move the ends of the lights, just the middle of the string. I was able to get it all done before the metal box became an oven later in the day.

A little later in the morning I got to the spinach row that the boys couldn't finish weeding. It only took me about 20 minutes to get it done but the lack of supporting weeds and cover means the spinach has gotten a bit burned from the sun and has to strengthen itself to stand up without the support.

I had been neglecting the cherry trees watering and I finally got the irrigation line run to them. I put three 2gal/hr emitters on each in hopes it will be enough. I used to have bubblers on that ran for 7 minutes and would put down 4-6 gallons each morning.

It was around noon when I started on the weeds in the main garden. Anyplace not covered in plastic explodes in weeds and I have to go through and hand pull them to try to eliminate them. I filled the bucket with the section of fence between the gate and the greenhouse.

This is the jungle I have to deal with.

I got another bucket load pulled past the gate up to the pea row. It was hot in the sun and I needed food so in the house I went. The weeds waited until we got home and I wheelbarrowed them into the sheep pen and dumped them.

@stryeyz and I had our once a decade insurance meeting with State Farm and our agent's office is on the far south side of Spokane, about as far as they can be away from us in the county. Our meeting went from 4pm till 5 but we were talking till nearly 5:30. We then drove back north a bit to Waddell's Pub for dinner which turned into our anniversary dinner (which is Saturday).

The burger was huge and super good and I couldn't fully finish it. The time spent eating had made the rush hour traffic diminish enough that we were able to make it home without too much trouble.

The boys had stayed with their Grammy at home and were back down finishing watching their movie as we went out to start soaking.

Today I keep pulling weeds in hopes of making it around the fence line of the main garden. Rain is in the forecast for Thurs/Fri so I have to ensure things are covered or prepped for the rain. It's also to be hot today so I want to get work done before it hits mid day.

Weeds, the bane of our existence in summer....

Thanks. It seems like a time machine when we go in it as we have some pretty old stuff still that is on the shelves.

Oh, like an attic :) I hope your son is over his cough!

Pretty much! Thankfully it was just a 24 hour thing and the cough is largely gone. Kids and school, they pickup all kinds of bugs there.

Yeah, but summer is coming :)

I hope to get around to a gardening post later today. I've been too busy gardening to write about it! And then there are the grandchildren, which take up more of my time, but I don't mind that. The weeds are flourishing here, too. I do hope we get some rain in the next couple of days. The past month has been unusually dry.

I think you should have a good bit of rain so far judging by the size of these storms. Quite the thunderstorm lineup we have coming in.

It is good that you were able to get yourself a good dish after you have been stressed by your daily work

It's rare for me to eat out so it was nice to actually get to for once.
