First thing in the morning yesterday I got my clothes washed and dried before I then went to North 40 to buy the hinges for the greenhouse doors. I was happy to find 2 packs for $7 of the right sized hinges. Then on the way home I stopped for gas and filled a couple of 5 gallon cans so I have on hand for the snow blower and other small engines.
The first door went on perfectly fine. I got it hung pretty straight and there was more than enough ground clearance.
Then I hit a snag. The doors had the hinges cut exactly the same so that the doors would not open opposite from each other. So I went an grabbed one of my wood turning tools and used that to cut the strip away so the hinges mount to the other side.
The doors fit exactly. I can barely close them at the same time as they push outwards on the frame while first opening. To most easily open the doors the right side is pulled open then the left can open with ease.
I have to say I am rather amazed at how well the doors and the frame match, it was not planned at all.
Being that the doors close so tight I am not going to put door knobs on. I am going to fill the holes and then install handles over the top.
It was about noon when I got to the plastic. I pulled my roll out and measured off the right width and cut it so size. I doubled the plastic over and fit it to the North side of the doors.
I had single wall up originally but I want the better durability hopefully. This is the "non sun bearing" side so my hope is it will last a long time.
Then I went along the length of the greenhouse and installed the furring strips to hold the plastic down above the roll-up. On each end of the wood I have foam between it and the plastic above to keep the wood from punching holes with the corners.
I am REALLY pleased with how this is turning out. The entrance looks really good and works perfectly.
The roll-up gave me a bit of trouble and I have to go back and reattach it when there is no snow. The snow made things uneven and a bit hard to get the pipe attached exactly right to the plastic.
There are some creases and folds in the roll-up that I want to take out but for now it is fine. I really need it like this to keep the birds out of the greenhouse. The last things for the structure will be the East end today. I have to cut 2x4s for the top of the window frame and fix them to the hoop overhead then cut and install new double layer plastic on either side of the window.
Super happy with how the entrance looks and extra happy to have been able to make the french doors work.
The 2024 PDC World Championship is ongoing each day and it is good having it on as J is spending a lot of time at the board practicing while watching. It is such an intensely difficult game to play well, consistently. Price took his match with ease as was figured.
Seattle went 1 for 2 last night. In a major surprise the Seahawks eeked out a win in the last minute while the Kraken lost in overtime... again.
Got nearly an hour soak in before the rains hit overnight.
Today it is raining a little bit still and I have the first session of PDC on while I am writing this. Once it is light I will head out and finish the east end of the greenhouse, clean up after the construction is done, I might try to till a section to maybe get some cold weather stuff going, I'll be trying to learn how to use my macro rail in the light box, MVG will be the last match this afternoon for the PDC, and then I'll figure something out for dinner.
