We went from Winter to Spring really fast. Yesterday morning I had .26" of rain in the gauge with more on the way, that amounted to another .1" or so. The temps have moved up to above freezing and we are looking at mid 50s F next few days. The forecast is all rain for the foreseeable future.
First thing I got my clothes washed before everyone else needed it which I should have waited until after my attic excursion as I got coated in insulation.
Man Utd played Newport and nearly got their asses beaten by a lower tiered team. The eventually managed to win but not without a concerted effort to lose.
Once the match was over my head was not pounding so I was able to work on the electrical in J's room. The first thing I did was to cut the wall open between the outlet box and the corner of the wall.
I had installed the dual outlet box Saturday before my head went bad. I was rather happy to find that there was a hole drilled in the header already that I was able to push the new run of romex through into the attic.
I used my long 1/2" auger bit to drill a hole through the stud.
This allowed me the space to run the power wire from box to box.
This part of the house has some seriously fucked up wiring. The left switch controls the lights in the hallway and the lights in J's room. I pulled the wires that run to the light in his room but it killed the entire circuit. It was seriously frustrating until I figured out an easy fix.
It was a squeeze getting into the attic of the old part of the house, that wire sticking up is the one i pushed up from below.
There was 3 romex in the light box in his ceiling which all got pulled into the attic then reconnected so the circuit still works. I pushed the new romex into the light box in the ceiling then squeezed myself back out.
Look at the size of those wasp nests.... I need to put screen over the vents for sure.
The new single run of romex got his light working correctly.
I have been wanting to do this for 15 years, since we bought the farm, but never wanted to tear apart the wall. Now that I had it open it was the perfect time to do the install. I put the outlets back and got the covers installed and put the strip of sheetrock back in between the box and the corner.
J is SUPER DUPER happy to have the light switch installed inside his room now. He also has 2 more outlets since his room is distinctly lacking in them. Once I had the electrical done @stryeyz pulled the laminate floor in the little hallway as the water had gotten under it from the leak. We got fans blowing and managed to get much of the moisture dried out. Today I will be looking for replacement pieces in my wood storage in the coop. A few pieces have swelled and look like shit.
The creek is pounding right now thanks to the warm temps and rain. Most of the ice is blasted away by the torrent. The water is at least a foot deep in the tunnel.
There is barely any ice left now and the water has cut out a path beneath it down the creek bed.
This isn't even the deepest it gets, I've seen it over 2 feet deep in the tunnel before.
The afternoon I had the 2 nfl games on since they were playing. Not invested in either.
I FINISHED A FIRST DRAFT!!!!! I actually did it. I never finish first drafts so this feels super good to have this out of my head. It felt like I took a big ladle scoop of the darkness and poured it into this story. I'm hoping that I can do the same again and as I go reduce all the garbage that rumbles around in my psyche.
It was later when we got out to soak after a later dinner.
Today I am going to get the sheet rock back in the top of the hole I cut out then need to work on cleaning out around and behind the tub before I close the wall up fully. The boys to and from school, R has wrestling practice this evening, dig out the laminate flooring and possibly reinstall, find my sheetrock mud and tape, check on the greenhouse, and we have leftovers so dinner will be easy this evening.
