Another day another half ton of rock moved around the farm yesterday. It wasn't so much rock as it was big granite slabs that I got for free some years back and have had stored next to my tool shed. It took a little bit in the morning to get out and get started and I got interrupted by having to take R to school.
I had been organizing the shed and I found that a bunch of the stuff piled on top of the granite crate could all get shuttled off to proper places and I had a desire to move the granite. The only place I could think of that would keep them close but out of the way was next to my pot storage crate.
It took a bit to get the area cleaned out and leveled off before I dropped a long concrete block against the old footing and then used bricks to hold the rest of the slabs up.
The lightest piece of granite was 30 pounds and the heaviest well over a 100 pounds. They got moved from one end of the shed to the other but are now well out of my way. I found a couple other slabs that were by the house and got hauled over as well.
In my garden shed I had plastic up over one window but it had limited the light as there are only two windows and the door. I had tacked screen up over the other window on Sunday and yesterday I put up screen over the other window. It gives a bit more light since the overhead lights aren't really bright.
This is the spot where the granite was sitting and I now have a bunch of space to work with. A shelf of some kind needs to get built here I think.
The rest of my afternoon was spent cleaning up the whole side of the shed. It had become a major mess and was creeping out into the walkway. With the new gate on the left I needed to get it cleaned up as I am walking through a lot and the stuff was just in the way. I had to shit everything around as I went but I got the grass all pulled, garbage picked up and thrown away, the ground raked out smoother, and the materials all organized.
Once I put the pipe and materials back it had created a ton more space and looks so much nicer. I wanted the walkway smoothed out since I will be using it so much. This closer corner is likely where I will be building another wood gate to then get the garden encircled in fence.
You an see a bit how bad the shed looked in this earlier pic. Slowly but surely I am getting this place cleaned up.
One Thing that amazes me is that I am finding old nails EVERYWHERE. Pretty much any place I dig around the farm I find old nails buried. It is part of the place being nearly 100 years old and being in the heart of the logging territory back in the day.
Today I need to get the area above the garden shed cleaned up and the overhang taken down. The old panels I used are falling apart and the space needs to be tilled for growing this year. There is still more to clean and organize in and around the tool shed, the trimmer needs to get running for the season as the grass is growing fast, and the sheep need another bale moved in.
