It's been a while since we shared about our onboarding contest with @valueplan, and today we're excited to reveal the winners. We noticed many of you showed interest in the announcement post and shared it to raise more exposure for the contest but not many have accomplished to join it at all. We are going to address some of your feedback below.

Luckily, some of you successfully participated and even shared their experiences in the summary posts. We'll pass these on to witnesses, apps, and projects on Hive to help improve the system.

Issues noted by participants

Before we announce the winners, let's summarize the feedback we've received regarding onboarding. It boils down to a few major issues on the Hive platform's side and potential issues on the end user's side. While we can't change the local systems of new Hivers, we can focus on discussing improvements needed on the Hive platform itself.

In direct messages, we've received feedback from numerous users who struggled to onboard someone. This shouldn't occur on a social platform like Hive. Specifically:
  1. IP-blocking
  2. phone verification
  3. the need to pay
  4. and missing account creation tokens
... pose significant barriers for many users. Without providing truly free accounts for everyone at every time, widespread adoption of the platform will remain limited. While we understand the technical challenges and concerns about potential abuse by bot accounts, are these issues truly more detrimental than the gradual decline of a social platform because only a few are able / allowed to join it? We tried to keep this post positive but as you can read it is very hard to do so.

Also, we believe there's no need to delve into the emotional experience of attempting to onboard individuals, especially when the application fails or refuses to create an account. Follwing a sentence by @elisaday7 that scratches the surface of the situation pretty well:
They were desperate moments for me almost an hour trying to open their accounts...

🏆 Results

We want to thank everyone who tried to join this competition regardless of the issues on the way through signup. We know of a handful of Hivers who tried but failed to join the competition at all. This is not a state Hive can stay for long as we need new users floating in regularly and this is not sure yet. We take your feedback very seriously and will forward it to the right persons.

But 2 people successfully onboarded two new Hivers each through this competition, bringing a total of four new DIYers with exciting talents and energy to post on Hive. Impressively, all of the new Hivers have already exceeded the mandatory first DIY post, indicating their commitment to staying on the platform.

That's why we only had 2 valid onboarding summaries and decided to split the prize pool between the two 🥳

First I want to say sorry that you are waiting for so long on the prize money!

The contest prizes are part of @valueplan and they assured me that they will send the prizes to both of you. It just takes more time than expected for them. Thank you for your patience and sorry for the long delay. But we trust the Valueplan team of course and just wait here together with you.

I can relate and understand that you are probably not happy with the situation. Unfortunately, we are not in charge of the prize money but I ask them (@valueplan) on a regular basis. As a side note: @foxkoit is asking in our discord server daily and he is not very polite in his wording and emoji usage. Hi, Well Hive is a channel to grow together. The truth is I don't know how to organize a contest and the respective alliances that are made for the contests.
