DIY Hydroponic Nutrient Solution

in #hive-1896412 years ago

Good day to all of you.
This is the addition to what I recently DIY posted here:
https://peakd.com/hive-189641/@deythedevil/self-watering-hydroponic-pot-from-a-recycled-bottle

Eventhough my post did not make a big impact to most of hivers, I will still continue to make a tutorial about DIY Hydroponics Nutrient Solution, as I promised.

PREPARING THE WATER

Water makes a big difference when making nutrient solution.
It is best to use rain water or deep well water. If it is not available, we can also use tap water. But it needs to stay on the container for 24 hours so the chlorine will evaporate from tap water.
Plants don't like chrorinated water and our nutrient solution will be affected if we use it. Just relax and wait for 24 hours, or more.

We are now making 60 liters of hydroponics nutrient solution.

FERTILIZERS AND OTHER NUTRIENTS

What plants need to grow healthy is NPK, it stands for chemical symbol:

N = Nitrogen
P = Phosphorus
K = Potassium

In addition, we must add Calcium, Sulfur and magnesium.

For NPK, I'm using this foliar complete fertilizer. This is readily available on Philippine market. This is only my preference, you can also used other complete fertilizer of you choice but make use that it was "FOLIAR" and water soluble.

For calcium, I'm using calcium nitrate.

And for magnesium and sulfur, I use Epsom salt. When in Philippines, avoid buying it on Mercury Drug. It is so expensive there. Buy in watson, let them see this photo. Or you can also buy it online on shopee and lazada.

MIXING THE NUTRIENTS

This is my mixing guide. For making different volume, use this guide and just compute it.
1 gallon of water =
2.4 grams of NPK
1 gram of Epsom Salt
2 grams of Calcium Nitrate

I disolved it separately in 3 different containers.

For 60 liters of water, I disolved:

NPK = 39 grams
Calcium Nitrate = 32 grams
Epsom Salt = 16 grams

It needs to stirred well until it mixed on water completely. This will prevent from crystalization of chemicals.

Now, mix it to the water one by one.
We nees to mix it thouroughly before putting the next nutrient.

Now, mix it very well.
And it's done!

You already have a DIY Hydroponics Nutrient Solution.

Important reminder. Store your water where there is no direct sunlight. And it need to be covered all the time. You need to stir it well again before using.
