Hey guys! Today I am excited to tell you about my success in making paint. I have had a lot of experiments with poke berries, and some have turned out better than others, but this one was a smashing success. I ended up with a texture that was rather inky, but it dried very similar to a watercolor, in the most gorgeous shade.
This is what my test sheet ended up looking like at the end. I did not take any progress pictures though and I'm sorry.
The process was super simple though, I thawed my berries and then cooked and mashed them. Next, I strained out the seeds and skin, added cornstarch, and the mix back into the pot. I cooked it just long enough to thicken it and poured it into a jar. All done ! I think the entire process took me maybe an hour. I am so excited to do this with other natural pigments!
I ended up with a lot more of this than I anticipated, and I am considering using it to try dying my hair as well. Poke berries are exceptionally good at binding to protein fibers like wool, so it would at least be fun to try.
