June HPUD DIY Edition: Another 1000+ Hive powered up

in #hive-193212last year

It's hard to believe that we are already starting June. It feels like just the other day the clock was turning midnight and we were ushering in 2023. This time of year is usually pretty busy for @mrsbozz and I. We have the school year coming to a close and we also have all the preparations that need to take place for us to go camping this summer.

I brought our travel trailer home from storage at my parents a couple of weeks ago. It has sat in the driveway since then waiting for me to get some spare time to do my annual repack of the bearings.

It's a messy job, but once you get the hang of it, you can usually do all four wheels in the span of a morning. A lot of the newer trailers have the quick lube zerg fittings on the end of the axle. They happily pump excessive loads of grease into the fitting and drive down the road blissfully unaware that their bearing is about to fail.

Have you ever been driving down the expressway and you see a trailer sitting all alone on the side of the road? Clearly, it has a blown tire, but you never know if the issue was actually the tire, or the bearing seizing up and that caused the tire to blow.

That's why my dad taught me to pull the inner and outer bearings every year, clean them off, inspect them for defects or "pits", and then re-grease them and put them back together.

Even if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, it is something most RV places will happily do for you at a cost of a couple hundred dollars per axle.

Personally, I prefer doing it myself. Which of course requires the proper tools to get the job done. At the very least, having the right tools makes the job much easier!

Which brings me to the real topic of this post. In case you haven't noticed, it is June 1st. That means it is Hive Power Up Day, and if you are going to talk about a Do It Yourself project, Hive is the perfect example of that.

It's crazy to think back five plus years to when I first created my account here on Hive. I have already talked about that initial push to hit 500 HP so I could finally get the vote slider in the native front end.

Then just last month, I was able to push myself to a personal milestone of 50,000 HP powered up. Sure, a 100x gain is pretty small (relatively) in the world of crypto, but it is still something that I am very proud of.

Now I am on a mission to hit that vesting point where my account will officially be considered an Orca. I know many of those titles have kind of fallen by the wayside, but it is still something I am shooting for.

The picture above is an example of a couple of the parts that I need to replace every so often when I do my trailer bearings. I wanted to share this as an example of how you sometimes need to switch things up with your Hive account.

Some of the most successful writers I know on Hive didn't start out blogging about the content that is earning them the big upvotes or huge following that they have today.

They had to put in a lot of time and effort and sometimes replace the pieces that weren't getting the job done or had been worn out to the point of being useless.

As you can see, there are often many parallels between a do it yourself project and your Hive account.

"and so, without further gilding the lily,
and with no more ado,

I give you my power up for this June HPUD. That's 1010 Hive locked up and ready to make some dreams come true via tasty upvotes on posts and comments!

My hope is to keep the same pace up that I have had through April/May, and by the end of the year I will be fully trenched in the Orca range.

I look forward to seeing what everyone powers up today for HPUD. When we grow, we grow together, and that is an amazing thing!

keep the good work up

Thank you!

Nice! I'm in a similar, but deeper, hell with the Model A. 😂

Oh dang, yeah, that is not good! Best of luck to you!

Congrats on the power-up. And even more congrats for the work you've put in preparing your trailer for the season. Job well done!

@tipu curate

Thanks! I appreciate it. It's one of those skills and traditions that I am glad my dad handed down to me.

That's a nice account boost. You'll be an orca soon.

You're very organised with your maintenance, but having those things fail would be a real pain.

Have fun.

Yeah, I also carry everything I need (including spare bearings) to do it on the side of the road while we are traveling if I needed to. That wouldn't be my ideal situation, but I can get it done if the worst happens.

Car work is another one of my blind spots. I can change the oil and oil filter. Well, cars seem to be locking that down more and more with every new model, but it is still possible for now, at least in my car. But other things I never learned how to do. Good on you for keeping on top of that!

And congrats on the power-up!

Thanks, I appreciate that. Yes, I used to change my own oil as well, but the price of DEXOS that the new vehicles require doesn't make it much more cost effective than taking it in these days. At least over here in the US.

Congratulations on your power up! How much is entry to Orcadom nowadays? You must be very close.

The slider! Yes, I remember those days when we started off, and our first objective was to get to 500 so we didn't have to do a full upvote every time. Happy days!

56K or something like that I think. Since it is based on vests, I think it floats around a little bit. I could be wrong though. Options for front ends were pretty sparse back then too!

You are crushing it, and I dove love seeing the bigger accounts powering up on HivePUD!

Great to hear about the preventative maintenance that you do yearly. I can just imagine Mrs Bozz if you broke down, well I told you to....

She is pretty cool about it. It would be cooler if she helped out, but she has her own list of things that she is in charge of for the trailer! I do what I can. I am hoping I can keep this 1000 HP per month pace up.

Happy HPUD - thats one heck of a power up - nice work !
And nice work on the wheels too - fair play, I wouldnt know how to do that !

It's super easy! Not always necessary if you don't own a trailer though. Thank you! I am hoping to do about a thousand a month for the rest of the year.

Congratulations @bozz! You received a personal badge!

You powered-up at least 1000 HP on Hive Power Up Day and got the biggest Power-Bee!
See you at the next Power Up day to see if you will repeat this feat.
May the Hive Power be with you!

You can view your badges on your board and compare yourself to others in the Ranking
