Making Ancient Paper
And Writing in Dwarvish
Hello, friends. I wanted to start this year by telling you about making a beautiful paper. It was really very simple and the result was satisfying. I actually made this homemade ancient paper for my players to find in the Dwarf Mine, in my game Dungeons and Dragons. But you can use it for many other things, for example;
- Writing a birthday letter
- When writing a love letter
- If you want to send an authentic gift to a distant acquaintance
- If you want to do a different project to make you feel good.
It can be used in many examples. It will be a paper that you can use in your other projects. It is very simple to make. The things you need are;
- Approximately 1 hour to 1.30 hours of time.
- Paper
- Coffee
- A container or tray to avoid coffee stains
- Hair Dryer
- Lighter or matches
- Toilet Paper
- Water
- If you want to write like me, a pen as thick as you like. I used my thinnest brush and wrote with black acrylic paint and I think it gave me that angular, hard Dwarf writing feel that I wanted.
Preperation
- Pour your coffee on the toilet paper.
- Dip it into the glass you previously filled with water and remove it before it dissolves completely. It will be enough to hold it for about 3 seconds.
If you hold it longer, the toilet paper may dissolve. This is the least polluting method. Some methods I've seen on the internet fill the whole container with coffee water, but I don't recommend that, it's not necessary.
Staining
And now you use your artistic skills to apply the coffee napkin, the toilet paper, on the A4 paper. Let me suggest something here, do it in one direction. It is very difficult to make circles and it can tear the paper. Also, when you do it in one direction, it looks like papyrus. In fact, making this antique paper can also be thought of as making papyrus at home.
Drying
Now you have two options. If you don't want to use a hair dryer, you can leave your papers outside until they are dry. But if you want it to dry quickly, it is possible to take the hair dryer and dry it in a few minutes on the hot setting. During this process, I realized something. The smell of coffee. A really nice coffee smell filled the house. I also noticed that my hands started to smell of coffee.
Aging and Burning
I would advise you to be a little bit careful here, because you don't want the fire to suddenly walk when you are burning the papers. And you don't want all your hard work to be destroyed. So it's best to do it slowly. Take your time. Remember that it is very important to take your time in DIY.
Light it with a lighter or a match if you have one, by curling and pressing the edges of the papers, and then blow it out.
Be careful not to burn yourself.
Writing
At this point I had to go to the forgottenrealms site and look for dwarvish writings. After that, it's completely fantastic.
Looking at the letters, I decided to write "HIVE HAPPY NEW YEAR" since I was going to share the post here.
After all, none of my friends know dwarvish. So I hope so. Aahhahaha.
When I wrote this post, I used a very thin brush and wrote it with acrylic black paint.
Of course, when they find this scroll, something different will be written on it. After all, this is a dungeons and dragons game! All about imagination! I don't think they will understand this text that I have sneaked in.
