Creating beautiful desserts like in a restaurant can be done at home, even with simple ingredients. We just need to splash a little creativity to create art on a serving plate.
Important elements in plating desserts include sauce, fresh fruit, and textured toppings such as crumbs, candy, or even sweet chips.
Before plating, you should prepare all the elements and place them in the plating activity area to make the plating work easier.
In this video, I will show you how I plated a dessert to have a beautiful final look like serving a dessert in a cafe.
Ingredients
- Coconut biscuit crumbs (you can substitute with other biscuit flavor variants, but I recommend using coconut biscuits for a stronger scent).
- Fresh fruit. The type of fruit is adjusted to the color needed, also adjusted to the combination of the taste of the dessert itself. Don't choose fruit that doesn't blend well with the dessert.
- Fruit cutter. Here I used a small circular fruit cutter. You can use heart or square fruit cutters.
THE SAUCE
Make sure you have prepared the sauce before starting plating. I have made a thick textured dragon fruit sauce. I use coconut milk blended with dragon fruit, without using water.
You can cook fruit juices with sugar as well as a little cornflour to add more consistency to the texture if needed.
In the plating that I did this time, I did not use sugar and cornflour. The dessert was already sweet, and the texture of the sauce itself was thick because I used thick coconut milk.
I put a tablespoon of sauce in the middle of the serving plate, in this plating technique.
Then, I use a spoon to shape the sauce into a saucer shape that looks like random art. How to do it is very easy. Simply moving the spoon is like pressing or hitting the sauce. That will create a random shape of the sauce splatter. Isn't that beautiful, right?
Arrange Dessert on Sauce
After successfully getting the desired shape of the sauce, add a dessert on top of the sauce.
The position of laying the dessert is adjusted to the planning of adding other complementary elements. Usually, I put it in the middle of the plate or the edge of the plate.
Added Fresh Fruit Slices
For me, adding fresh fruit to the dessert is important. It's like enriching the presentation on the plate so that it looks more attractive.
Here I used a small round shape. Do not use fruit that is larger than the dessert. Dessert should be the main concern on a plate.
Final Touches
I used coconut biscuit crumbs as the finishing touch for the plating stage. You can use other elements, such as melted candy, sweet chips, or other sweet treats that have a crunchy texture.
This is the final result of the plating dessert. The random shape of the sauce gives a touch of art to the plate. I hope you guys like my plating tutorial.
I am not a professional chef. I'm learning at my own pace and I'm happy if you guys give me feedback. Have a great day and until next!
