I planted some bulbs, sowed leafy greens, and covered them with straw … and then I realized my balcony had turned into brown and green. I thought there could be a bit more colors, so I started looking for ideas.

At the market, I saw beautiful planters already put together, and I considered buying one. However, I couldn’t find one with ornamental cabbages and flowers I liked, so I decided to make my own. Ornamental cabbages are a plant my grandparents used to grow every year, and after they passed away, my mother continued the tradition. It’s a plant that brings back fond memories.

While searching for ornamental cabbages, I found some at a local supermarket for just a little over 1 euro. I couldn’t decide between red and white, but in the end, I chose white. I also bought cyclamen, wire vine, and silver-leaf plants at the nearby market, where they gave me discount for all together, and everything came to 6 euros 🥳

I bought a shallow ceramic pot and a matching saucer that should last a long time from a home improvement store for about 7 euros. In total, I spent around 13 euros – not bad for a fun little project.

I planted the four plants tightly together, and my planter was finished. It was so much fun to think about the color combinations and the arrangement – it’s been decades since I last made a planter. I enjoy it days and nights.

But, when I took a closer look, I realized my balcony still had some color. Just when I thought the season was over, I noticed the strawberries were still turning red again. All I could say was, "Wow!"

Outside the house, I checked the community garden container I started last year. It’s been a while, but I picked some celery and black kale. They are useful for upcoming cold soup seasons.

Surprisingly, even though they didn’t produce fruit, the strawberries were growing vigorously there too. These strawberries always remind me of my mother. They can be those propagated from our micro balcony garden 😊🍓

Yesterday, I successfully held the first session of my microgreens workshop, and today is a complete rest day for me. I’ll write a separate post about the workshop the other day.

Here in my area in Germany, the temperature has been rising to nearly 20°C over the past few days. I’ve placed the planter on the balcony table to fully enjoy Germany’s short but golden autumn before winter arrives.

Wishing you all a lovely Sunday!

Thanks DIY hub! Happy to read your comment ☺️

like seeing a bouquet of flowers with many types in it. Ahahah but it is actually a real flower that is still growing in a pot.
