Replacing broken shoelaces with 275 paracord

in #survival9 months ago

Usually when I wear out my shoes it happens to be on the front toe area, but it would seem these boots had some bad laces. Before even wearing out the normal areas of the shoes my laces have given out. Just a few months of owning them the sleeve has separated from the laces. In the past I have restrung my shoes using paracord, and figured I would give it a try again.

Survivalists are into using paracord in their laces, so if need be you can take some out to string up needed items in camp. You can even just remove single strands and keep your laces intact. Its worth it as each strand is capable of holding a lot of weight. So its fun to think about, though I not ever expect to take my laces off to use them for survival.

We can see how the string is bear, I guess I could have just cut the sleeve off but I think just replacing them they should last longer.

I would have had to undo most of the laces to fix it. So just made sense to replace it.

Getting started I do one shoe at a time, that way I can reference the way the string needs to be strung.

A few minutes later its mostly strung up, soon its time to tighten up the laces and measure to cut them to size.

I put the shoe on and get it nicely fit. And then I pull the strings at the bottom first and slowly do that all the way up till its all tight.

Once cut I need to burn the ends of these cords so they do not start fraying.

I can toss these old strings, such a shame they barely last a few months. But the shoes themselves are holding up well so I think its a worthy investment redoing the laces.

Your shoes are nice. I think wearing shoes like that is quite comfortable when climbing mountains

Great use of paracord bro! Love the old end-burn trick. Works great for connecting ends too ;D

It seems like your boots have been through a lot, especially with those rebellious laces. Maybe they were just too tired of being "tied down" all the time! But hey, at least now you're all set for a potential survival situation, so using paracord for laces is definitely a creative move.

And great job to you for taking the time to restring them. I hope your "new and improved" laces will go the distance and won't give up on you

They sure have, probably a few hundred hours on these boots already. I wear them daily on the farm. Hehe yeah maybe thats it :-)

Thanks, I hope so too.. we shall see.

Working shoes for the field are very important, especially for you who work hard for a promising future. @solominer I take this opportunity to wish you a happy year 2024, and may you continue your success in your field of work. I thank you for your excellent visits to my publications.

They sure are, I am spending about twice as much as I used to on my street shoes with my farm boots. They need to be tough that is for sure.

thanks much

They look very sturdy and good your work shoes, well worth the cost. Merry Christmas @solominer . Thank you my friend for your appreciation of my publications. Best wishes.

Wow i love this your shoe. And please if you want through away give me o !Diy

Haha thanks man... no I love my shoes I am going to keep them :-P

Very nice! Seems like a really smart use for the cord and like you said, now you have some handy in case you get in a pinch. It's always a good idea to be prepared. I was never a boy scout, but I think I would have made a pretty decent one. We used to have a couple of those antigravity chairs and I would always carry around my own elastic cord so I could fix it if it broke. My friends always made fun of me, but I kept those chairs going for three years past their normal life thanks to that cord!

Haha I know what you mean, I also tend to be the person that carries extra stuff "just in case" so its nice having what is needed in the time of need.

Good you got those chairs working again, many times its just one little part that broke and if that can be fixed they last for many more years.

My wife goes nuts and always asks if we need all the stuff I have loaded in the truck. One day we will and she will get it!

Nice, but the color hurts :)

thanks man, hah I like them.. my favorite color.

Good afternoon dear friend @solominer
It is not very common for the laces to be destroyed before the sole of the shoe, it is evident that there was some factory defect.
Excellent idea to replace with this material, you will have laces for a while
enjoy the weekend

So true, it is not normal for them to fail. I think they indeed failed before they should have.

Thanks, yeah this paracord should surely last. You too!

I keep old ones for little jobs needing short pieces, like hanging wind chimes.

Ah yeah there ya go, I think I already threw them out but good point I will keep the next ones.
