Hello and good morning all, sorry for the lack of posts recently. I've been away on some business dealings and haven't had the time.
Today I have to share this piece I carved last week for a very good customer.
So I was contacted last year to schedule an onsite carving on this maple tree.
Called up my good friend Adam from Connecticut and had him help me with this job. When we got there the tree was half rotten and un-carveable. So we called around, found a log suitable for the job and had it delivered to the site.
Here's my friend Adam straightening out the base of the log so it would stand up straight.
We had it stood up and we were ready to get started.
Adam made the first cut, getting a piece cut off to make wings from.
Then I got up there and carved the eagle, prepping it for wings.
Wings attached and carved a little more on the eagle.
Here the eagle was mostly carved and ready for the moose.
Near the end of day 2 we were rained out but still made good progress.
By the end of day 3 Adam had the moose ears and antlers carved, ready to be permanently attached. I got a little further on the eagle.
By the end of day 4 we had the entire thing carved and ready for details, paint and varnish on the final day.
The next morning we detailed, burned and flapsanded the whole piece, prepping it for paint.
Went with a natural look with some slight airbrushing the shadows in.
Adam started on varnish.
Here it is all complete. My client was very happy with the results.
I'd like to thank you all for looking and seeing what I saw. I love what I do and I'm happy to share here on Peakd. Feel free to upvote and reblog.
Thanks again,
Jon
