Hey Hivers around the world!
I hope your week is going great. As you may have read in a previous post of mine, I recently started my own business and one of my endeavors is to run my own boutique hotel with beachfront villas in Naxos island in Greece. So, I left Athens, where I live, and came to the island to find contractors to renovate the buildings.
By the way, the houses are family owned but have been left uncared for, since they were leased to another hotel owner who during covid defaulted his contractual obligations to us. Anyway, bottom line; tens of thousands of Euros will be required for me to create the place I dream of and it will probably take more than one season. I've already been here for a month and we are just starting to get people working on the ground.
One of the basic tasks is to place lights all over the garden, which is about 5500sqm and currently totally DARK at night, since the previous manager cut off all wires... nice guy! The electrician said we need to dig next to the concrete, for the pipes with the cables to be placed under it and keep them safe from the negligence of the gardener, the weather etc.
Now, the electrician was not available to do this preparatory work. We called our contractors and anyone who could do it, but they weren't available either. The gardener was there, working and very available but was not willng. If we didn't proceed with the dig, the electrician would not proceed with the placement, andthat means the whole task would stay behind for another month. Which was something I couldn't afford.
So, I did it myself.
It wasn't that hard for me and shouldn't be so hard for them either, but it seems they realized it only after I completed the task myself. After I let them know HOW THINGS ARE DONE they became willing and available.
Important Note: A few hours earlier, the gardener and the electrician were discussing about me NOT being married and how I won't be able to manage this project on my own. After all, they said, no matter how strong a personality I may be, women are the weaker sex.
