Adventures of a House S(h)itter - Part 2 - How to Return a Toilet Seat?

in #housesittinglast year

Today's write up follows yesterday's Adventures of a Housesitter - Part 1

Where to continue? or I should say: Where to start?

Let's go back to Monday, 5 days ago, when the housesitting was about to start, late afternoon.

Or, to rephrase that, I would be picked up that day, have dinner with my friends at their place. The idea was for them to talk me through some things and show me their land, where I would spend the first night in a yurt ( as depicted in Part 1 of this series ). They would then leave on their mini holiday, early the next morning.

But, before all that would happen, I had to clean up my own apartment...

My twin sister had told friends of my parents, who told us the day before that they had landed in Portugal, that they could probably stay in my apartmen, as I would be housesitting the place of friends those days.

She had not informed me first.

My first response was: rather not, as I felt my apartment wasn't good enough for a women in her 70s and a man, aged around 60, and thought that it would be too noisy there, for them.

It is for me..

and they might expect countryside, as our area is known for that

Also, it meant that I would need to do some serious cleaning and possible repairs ( suffice to say that I'm not a handyman, at least not in the way people think of, when they hear that word ).

I decided to be flexible though and offered them to stay for four days, if they wanted to, Tuesday up till Saturday, while I would be away, house sitting.

They thanked me and said that two nights, Tuesday to Thursday, would suffice.

On Monday morning I started cleaning. That afternoon I would be picked up by my friend to go to their house ( sitting place ).

One thong thing that was high on my priorities list was replacing the toilet seat. Something I had never done in my life.

I wondered how to even get rid of the duct taped old one, as I saw no screw or anything. Should I just break it off, with all possible consequences?

And then I found out that that I could actually slide it off pretty easily. I immediately put the duct-taped ( because cracked ) old toilet seat in a garbage bag and threw it in a container, in my street ( feeling a little guilty and dirty for throwing this in the trash ).

I had taken some pictures of the system of attachment and then went to a nearby tools shop, a hardware store that sells all kinds of things and - I guessed - even toilet seats.

Once arrived, I informed after a TS that would fit on my toilet. I decided to buy the more expensive one, not the cheapest, as I didn't want another cracked seat that pinched my buttocks.

I had also gotten some groceries and a bunch of cleaning things, as well as a little bedside lamp and went home, proudly, feeling like a caveman after a successful sabretooth tiger or mammoth hunt.

Anyhow, I didn't mean to make this a Do It Yourself post, I find most of those boring, so suffice to say that I thought I had installed the new toilet seat correctly and felt pretty proud of myself butt ... ass soon as I closed the seat and/or the cover, the thing started pulling itself out of the holes that I had plugged it in - as if it planned to go on a walk.

I couldn't help but feel that I had bought a toilet seat that was too small for my toilet.

Shit!

Meanwhile, time was running out, and I still had plenty of cleaning to do.

Now how to return a ( used ) toilet seat?

TO BE CONVINUED...

Sort:

Lordy, it is too small!!

I need to replace mine. But find myself scared of the job in case I put the new one on and it keeps moving about

I put the new one on and it keeps moving about

Haha, that must make the passage perilous ^^

It does a bit, shoogly!!! 🤣🤣

Yes 😂 please be careful haha !

too small for my... ?

bear with me for the convinuation of this exciting non shit post...

😀😀

Hahaha the little inside jokes in here were great. I actually have dealt with this issue once before. Like why in the absolute hell are toilet seats not standard universal fittings is absolutely beyond me.

Hopefully you got it sorted in time. I would think it would be worse for your parents to arrive to no toilet seat than to one with duct tape on it.

It is nice that you allowed the visitors to stay and that you proceeded to make the place comfortable to accomodate tehm. The toilet seat - definitely too small. I am a bit behind but I will catch up on you adventure to learn whether u could return a "used" toilet seat.

The title of your post was interesting enough that all people will read it. Anyway boys rooms are like that because boys don't clean most rooms but you have told us a much more interesting story.
