Today I attended a wonderful event, a fundraiser for the creative kids space that my two eldest children attend, three afternoons a week. the kids and teenagers aged from 6 years to 17, organized the whole event. My two girls were super excited and also nervous, as they had been learning Flamenco for the last 10 weeks and were performing with 5 other girls onstage.
You can't get much wilder than this! This is where my girls get to be free, wild and creative, with a wonderful tribe of humans. They are very much creating their own world here!
I had watched them over the last few weeks, break into spontaneous rehearsals both inside and outside the truck, taking a lot of pride in each move, with serious attention given to the way in which they moved their hands and feet of course. They took it all so seriously, which is to be expected, as facial expression means a lot when you are performing Flamenco.
The wonderful tunnel they made, leading into their gallery.
The kids decided that they would run a chip shop with a selection of sauces available and requested that the parents provide a cake which could be sold. I made a vegan gluten free, chocolate strawberry cake. The kids also created a beautiful tunnel out of wood and pipe, which led to the gallery space, where you could buy some copper jewelry which they had made.
The wicked weapons they made. Loving the attention to detail.
How awesome is this knife!
I was very excited to see some of the things that they had made and I was super impressed with the wooden weapons that they had made. Every child/teenage that attends here, has been trained how to use both hand tools and a selection of power tools responsibly, as they have helped to build every structure that is on the land.
A wonderful selection of jewellery, from necklaces, bracelets and rings all made by the kids.
I am very happy with my purchase and super impressed once again, that some of the kids made these!
The jewelry was beautiful, and I ended up buying two cooper rings. There are so many creative people within our community and many of f them offer workshops for the kids to take part in. There was also some wonderful ceramics on display, that some of the kids had made. (My eldest daughter made a very impressive mug).
Wonderful pulley system that the children made to help them transport heavy items. When children are left to their own devices, they find solutions.
I love to visit this site, as each time there is more and more to see. It is such a wild and rugged place and I a so grateful that my girls get to come here and be, wild. There are numerous tree houses, swings that are not for the fainted hearted and many more creations waiting in the pipelines.
The views around here, always take my breath away, how lucky these kids are to have this amazing landscape to explore!
The kids made three movies, which were screened in the library, as well as some amazing animation. The first movie was a zombie movie. The second was a detective movie and the last was a silent movie, about wild and free kids that were discovered by a man who tried to school them, but it backfired. The kids took charge of all of the acting, script, filming and sound. We were all super impressed with what they created.
Some of the tools they use to build and create, learning skills that will help them thrive.
Then there were the outdoor performances, which took place on a stage that they build especially for the day. We had with music and singing, the Flamenco performance, which was such a proud mama moment for me. And a Shakespeare play, Twelfth Night, I must say I was really impressed with how each of the kids memorized their lines.
Then there was a raffle, with prizes that were donated by the parents and wider community. Including massage treatments, family constellation workshops, homeopathy kits and much more. All in all, it was such a wonderful celebration of our children and the initiative they took in creating this event.
I am feeling super blessed and grateful, that my girls get to attend such a wonderful space, that they helped to design and create. The skills they have learnt here are so valuable and are really helping to prepare them for life. It was great to witness the real sense of community amongst all of the kids, they really do look out for one another and encourage one another. Reminding me once again, how important it is to just let them be, to give them the space to become who they are meant to be!
