BE WHO YOU WERE BORN TO BE

Encourage a child to grow to be who they were born to be - and not who a parent or society desire them to be.

Part of a homeschooling parents responsibility is to channel their children in the way they should go. Which is not necessarily the way we think they should go. It is part of the whole-istic approach to a vibrant, thriving and joyful child - and ultimately an adult who embraces their unique birthright.

After months of planning the local homeschooling families held their first ever JeugMark - Youth Market. And it was a roaring success. The purpose was to allow the creativity of each child to make and sell produce. Their unique personalities and interests truly shone through. And the support from the farming community was staggering.

The variety of skills was evident in the children's choices of carpentry, gardening, sewing, metal and leather work, art and baking.

Some of the older children had their packing and labelling beautifully designed for their soaps, candles and scarves.

One of the local restaurants hosted the special winter JeugMark. The smell of fresh brewing coffee and one of the teenagers sourdough breads permeated the atmosphere.

The younger ones, with assistance from parents and older siblings made waffles and brownies, jewellery, toys, baskets, and bug hotels.

Outgrown clothing and books were available for re-sale.

Herbs and seedlings had been potted for sale. Jams and juices were on offer.

The day was perfect. The nervous energy of the kids was contagious as people milled about.

There was a break in the icy winter weather and the snow capped mountains stood majestically in the backgound.

Part of the excitement of the day was the lifting of South Africa's ruling on masks. The winter sunshine smiled across the happy crowds.

The JeugMark did not limit itself to homeschoolers but invited school going kids.

It was interesting to see that those who are part of the public school system sold their parents wares while the homeschooling children explored their creativity.

For such a small farming community the united heart was evident.

The one feeling I heard vocalized time after time was about the hope of the future generation.

The resilience of youth is inspiring.

The brainchild of a few determined homeschooling moms paid off in this first JeugMark. Heading to the market early that morning I knew that it would excite our very own @dswigle - the inspiration behind #marketfriday as well as her own now grown children.

It was a privilege to be part of this joyful celebration of the next generation. May their creativity and individual birthright be a blessing and inspiration to those that experience them - as well as those that come after.

This one tends to be extremely difficult for people to let go of.

Wow that market looks amazing, very impressed at the handiwork of the kids :)

Very difficult. So much so that many parents never let it go. It was quite a spectacular market

Thank you for sharing this experience. It really is amazing what kids can do if encouraged to follow their passions and this is a great example of it.

What an exciting market this must have been. I bet there were lots and lots of things to discover, so much creativity in one place. I bet the kids were excited and giddy like crazy :)

Dear @buckaroobaby, we need your help!

The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago when the HBD stabilizer proposal rose above it.

May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work?
You can do it on Peakd, Ecency, Hive.blog or using HiveSigner.

Thank you!

Wow this is brilliant! You inspired me to find like minded individuals & pocket of communities, because I feel that's what we are lacking the most when homeschooling.

Yeah! Go for it Ed. I think most homeschooling families feel the lack of community. It just means making a bigger and more adventurous effort

What a wonderful event this was! I really like the enthusiasm it drums up within. Congratulations on the first JeugMark - Youth Market! It looked exciting just reading about it! You are right, it really does excite me. Homeschooling is stronger than ever, and for good reason. Just look at them!

When you look at the age of these kids and then look at their level of skill in making their way in the adult world? It is staggering. They can think on their feet and make it all work. Those beautiful soaps with lovely packaging? Wow! I am impressed all over the place.

There has always been a huge difference between working off mommy and daddy's skills/money/doing it for them and the homeschooler who is striving to learn how to do it themselves.

I can tell you from my own humble experiences in homeschooling that there is much hope for future generations. All you have to do is look at this for an example.

Congratulations to all! This was awesome! Thank you for showing it off, Tracey! @buckaroobaby

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Wow! I can’t believe I missed this post! This is super encouraging and inspiring for our youth. As a homeschooling mom in a homeschooling environment I have witnessed this very thing. I’ve had the opportunity to buy handmade products from youth and support their endeavors and I’ll do so every chance I get.

You’re right. We’re here to hone their own skills and not force our desires of what we want them to be. God has designed each of these children and along with that He implemented certain desires and skills into them. All we must do is set up opportunities like this to help them find their way.

I am so totally impressed and amazed at everything I seen. I can imagine how yummy it smelled with all of the food and soap products. I’m seriously going to get with my community and talk about setting something up like this for our children as well. How many months of planning did this take?

Thanks for sharing this inspiration!
