I grew up in a society where young people were creative. They could pick up old or thrown out materials and reproduce them into something beautiful and useful. My mum, who doesn't like to waste products, always finds a way of using what seems to be a waste, reproducing it into something usable. One very good example of a company I've seen doing upcycling used abandoned coconut husks to make ropes and it was amazing seeing how useful products could be reproduced from what society considers to be a waste. In our Day to day activities, we do find more reasons to reproduce materials into something useful. I'll be discussing an upcycling I've done myself, and that was making a key holder from an abandoned straw. I learned it from my peers then and I no longer needed to buy holders for our keys.
The key holder was made strictly with straws. We go in search of straws littered on the streets and use them to make the holder. The straws used in drinking soft drinks are folded into each other, giving it the shape of a box. One keeps twisting the straws upon another until one gets the desired length and style he wants. It often doesn't take long for the holder to be made and one no longer has to worry about holding his key naked. As simple as that is, it's very productive. I remember making it for a lot of people then and it became my major holder for keys instead of the ones sold in the markets.
