The time finally came to start on my new kitchen. It's only been 2 years since the house was finished!
So with the units ordered from IKEA in Bangkok, i decided to paint the walls and get a splash of colour to compliment the chosen kitchen colour.
The entire house was painted in a God-awful pale vanilla colour which I've come to loathe and as the wife kindly let me create whatever culinary area I chose, to a tight and restrictive budget! I thought I'd go with something strong to contrast with the general greys and other insipid colour scheme around the house.
I actually hate painting but needs must and after 4 hours had managed to get two coats on. I'd firstly masked the ceiling, adjacent wall and floor off which did little more than to confirm how far 'off' all the surfaces are, Bangkok pride parades are straighter than my walls!
Of course, I'd miscalculated the amount of paint because I needed to go back and give it a third coat as the porous surfaces sucked up the paint like a sponge on speed.
A nice drop of 'Deepsea'. Apologies for the shadows.
It's a long time since I bought paint and I chose the colour from the colour cards and had it mixed, after which they give you a barcode incase you want to buy more later and also write the details in a big book. I also bought a tin of the grey we used on the outside of the house to do some much needed touching up.
I won't show you any close ups as i got a bit of paint on the ceiling and that's still needs tidying up. I'll add it to the snagging list!
And that's it! A start has been made and it was time to wait for the boxes to arrive from Ikea. It's been 20 years since I last fitted a kitchen and I like a good project so I'm rather excited!
