It's a pleasure to be here again in this great community where original content is being shared and checking out the rule of the community that made me want to talk about how my day in the engineering field went. It is not easy to be an engineer because there are lot of things which need to be sacrificed like time, money and all other things, looking at the fact that I'm still a student who is just struggling to become an engineer there are lot of sacrifice which will be made, like reading of books which will allow the brain and make one able to think wide.
In the engineering field, when will surely pass through some practical stage which requires fieldwork and other things. So today we were having our practical on the field, and what we dealt with today was chain surveying, which will made use of some equipment and instrument which have been listed below for the field practical. Some of the equipment are:
- measuring tape
- Theodolite
- Ranging pole
- Pegs
- Arrow
- Tripod stand
- Prismatic compass
all those instruments have their uses even though we have a lot of equipment which we use in surveying but this is just for chain surveying although I didn't list everything yeah because I couldn't remember all what we use today because I didn't write them down, only snapped a little out of all the instrument which we use today on the field. Which instrument have their uses so that is what made them very useful in surveying and what is surveying all about?
*According to what we were taught today, survey is the act of making measurement on the earth surface or marking out a certain distance between one place to another and this is done through the help of the various instruments which is listed above.
To set the prismatic compass you have to adjust the handle gently so as to make the Mercury be at the centre, and it takes a careful and a cam engineer to be able to use this instrument just like the theodolite which is the oldest thing inserted on the tripod stand. How to set the a delight to be stable on the tripod stand you have to use some techniques to do it and those who does not have an idea or who are not engineers can't be able to handle this instrument.
As a student engineer we have to put on our jumpsuit anytime we are on the field doing practical work and those who doesn't have the jumpsuits are not allowed to participate in the fieldwork practical. I should be able to list news of some of the instrument which are listed above and the first one is the measuring tape which is used to measure the vertical or horizontal distance, why the peg is used to get the accurate measurement in surveying. Ranging pole it can be in steel form or wood and they are usually painted as white and red it'll be easy to see from a far distance and they are used for making station during surveying.
We ended the practical with 2hours and it continues next week which I will surely talk about.
