A Pair of Crochet Socks For The Rainy Season.

in #hive-189641last year

Hello everyone ✨

Necessity is indeed the mother of invention. In my part of the world, it's the rainy season and with constant rain comes constant cold and with constant cold comes cold feet. I'm not one to wear socks unless it is very necessary and at this point, it is very necessary.

Sometime ago, I was given a pair of socks as a gift and I just tossed it into a box and forgot about it. As the rainy season approached, I realised that my regular cotton socks couldn't keep my feet as warm as I wanted and so I went in search of the woollen socks I was gifted. The socks came in very handy and so I thought of making another pair for myself. Variety.

I started by making a magic circle. Initially, I used the conventional chain five method but it didn't give me what I wanted. Inside the magic circle, I made ten half double crochet stitches and that serves as the tip of my socks.

After making the tip, I went ahead to increase from the first row to the fourth row.

From the fifth row, I didn't make any increase again till I reached the twenty-first row. You could always increase or decrease the number of rows depending on your foot's length. My feet aren't so long hence the 21 rows. I kept using the half double crochet stitch because I wanted the sock to be a bit breathable and half double crochet stitches help create breathable spaces.

After making a total of 21 rows, I started making the heel of my sock. I joined the heel with a slip stitch and it came out looking like a shoe. If you had the intention of making ankle socks, then you can stop at this point.

I went ahead to make six extra rows so that the socks would stop a little bit above my ankle. I didn't want a very long sock but if you do, you can keep increasing the row till you reach your desired length.

With that, I went ahead to give the end of my socks the ribbing effect. The ribbing effect makes it look as if the sock has elastic in it but it doesn't.

Ps: It's best to use stretchy yarn while making socks.

After the ribbing, I ended with a half double crochet, sewed in my loose ends and my pair of socks was ready.

You may be wondering why I used the colour green? Well, this pair of socks was made for the sole purpose of wearing it indoors. If I used a dark colour, I would be tempted to wear it outside. So, to prevent that, I used a shouty green colour; I do not wear shouty colours outside.

So, what do you think of the pair of socks?. I'd totally love to hear your suggestions, corrections and views. Thank you for your time.

This is so good. People that crochet just blow my mind. My brain is just unable to comprehend how such things work

I'm glad you like it:)

I would say crocheting is easy but if one decides to learn it, then its a really nice hobby.

Maybe one time, I will give it a try

Okey dear

Crochet work is a beautiful art. My granny used to do it, sadly no one from the family learned this skill from her. I did learn cross-stich work, but this one I could not.

Cross-stitch works are also incredible.
