Papasan Repairs and Inspired Storage

in #hive-1896418 months ago

Hello, DIYers! Yesterday I did a few repairs on my papasan (a wicker bowl chair). I started off with the simplest part, gluing down some pieces where one had broken a long time ago:

You can see where a whole section came off (tbh it happened years ago and I have no idea how, lol, I have had this papasan for about 16 years). The ends that remained would pop out of where they should be stapled into place:

So I just glued both ends to the staple to keep them in place. Then I went diving through the craft supplies to find a solution for the middle, which used to have a tie like this:

But it had worn off many years ago. So I found this paper raffia type stuff, and tied it around, and glued it again on the underside:

So hopefully this keeps my papasan going strong for a very long time! :)

Earlier, I was putting away the clean dishes and was inspired by an item I saw on Etsy to store canning rings. So I looked around in my jar/bottle reuse collection and got two soda bottles, and:

So much easier and the rings won't be in chaos in the cupboard! So I thought I would share because I know canning rings can be a bit of an awkward item to store.

That's it from here. I hope y'all are having a wonderful week! :)

This is not easy to understand but not hard to repair

That was a good idea to bring back alive that papasan with your bare hands. Every living thing needs a doctor .. Nice job dear.

Haha, now that's funny but effective easy to fix the chair

The raffia paper should hold it in place until the glue sticks permanently

Wow what a great idea. I would use it , when this type of situation comes. Thanks for sharing.

I love how you repaired the papasan that you won’t even bother to pay someone to do it for you
Nice one!

I totally couldn't afford to pay someone, lol. And the cost of labor here, they'd probably advise me to buy a new one for cheaper.

The padding I use for the chair is blankets folded up and pillows, because years ago cats peed on the original cushion. I tried washing it in the bathtub, but that only worked so well, and it was too big for a washing machine. When I asked a dry cleaners if they could do such a thing, the cost was basically ... buy a new one. This is why so many people here don't repair, they throw away and buy new. I would rather figure it out myself!

16years?
How that’s a long time
Really great to see you still having it
It’s also great to see you were able to fix it yourself
Imagine if you had to pay someone to do this job( something you even did better in my eyes)

Aw thanks. :)
16 years isn't that old for me ...I have furniture from the 80s still. Hell, I have flipflops that I wear every day from the 80s too. LOL
