Most of the farm activities I have learnt were first from my mum and the others by experience after years of farming.
Recently as a result of education, I can google out some of the farming activities I need to do but have no idea of.
Only yesterday my neighbor has called me to help her plant her fluted pumpkins. She didn't know which parts was the head that ought to face up, after all the work done I was surprised that not everyone know how to plant what.
And trust be told if she plants it the wrong way, there is possibility that it will not germinate.
Today I am propagating potatoes for the late planting seasons and what to show us just how this is done.
The potatoes for earlier planting seasons has been done with and we have a little harvest over there, it is probably time to dig out that root and have some tubers for food.
Our farm neighbors have harvested and sold theirs, tubers of new yams and potatoes fill the town, but as you should know, farmers don't sell cheap because of inflation too.
They equally complain of how much they have spent on chemicals to grow these food products.
We have large portions of the vegetative potatoes dump here by farmers who have earlier harvested and we are cutting these into tiny pieces for re-planting.
In situations where you do not have these vegetative potatoes, tiny pieces of the potatoes is prepared and grown in nursery to cause it to germinate.
About 10-15inches length is perfect.
And you dip the potatoes leaves in a hole with the leaves direction facing upwards contrary to planting this stem in the manner in which the leaves will be facing downwards.
We do not need watering or any other thing since the weather is perfect and the soil is damp.
Keep in mind that potatoes produce well in a Sandy-loamy soil
