My little library holds a Secret Santa gift exchange where each of us draws the name of another librarian and then buys or makes something for them. People also sometimes have a treat or trinket for everyone else, too. This year, I am making these simple necklaces for all the library ladies. I had some necklace chains I bought in bulk a while back already assembled with clasps and jump rings, so all I needed to do was add some charms as pendants, and this is the result.
On the left is a lotus flower for the one with an interest in eastern mysticism. I'm not sure this is quite right for her, but I have time and supplies aplenty to ponder an alternative before our party.
Next is a puzzle piece for the person I corrupted with jigsaw puzzle addiction. As soon as I saw this specific charm, I knew this project needed to become reality for everyone.
OK, the middle one needs some explaining. One of my co-workers is a bit on the goth side, but I'm not sure that oddball skull bead strung straight onto the chain is quite right for Christmas. It's at least a placeholder until inspiration strikes for something better.
A bit right of center is a revolver for a small-scale cattle rancher who is also a part-time librarian. This was the second definite choice for the recipient.
And last, furthest to the right, is an inspirational "she believed she could so she did" medallion for our new youth librarian. This one is also definitely going to happen.
This project required very few tools, and was even simpler than my last DIY post. I only needed some pliers to gently open the jump rings on the charms. Everything else was ready-made, so if you need ideas for Christmas presents or any other occasion, keep this project in mind. It's dead simple. The mere 60% definite gift plan is just uncertainty on my part. As for my Secret Santa victim winner, I think I have her main present just about ready to share, but not quite yet. Stay tuned.
