Recycling Cardboards for Education

in #hive-1896413 years ago

I have a lot of cardboards at home due to my brother who is doing online business will receive boxes of his stocks. Whenever certain boxes do not suit him, he will not use them anymore. So happen, I am in need of alphabets material to teach my youngest son some spelling. I find he can learn faster with hands-on movement involved plus visual effect rather than just writing on piece of paper. Also, his muscles for writing and the brain-hand coordination is still developing. Therefore, I think with hands-on activity, like moving alphabets board around to form words while learning a new word will help my son rather than asking him to think in brain and write down the words on paper. Such as below, looking at the word 'HIVE BLOG' formed by cardboard definitely has more visual impact rather than looking at the word 'hive blog' written on a piece of paper.

I hope I am correct about this perception.🙂

Collected all spare parts

I had collected parts of card boards here and here, prepare material for cutting like cutting board and blades, pencil and ruler for drawing.

My eldest son asked me why I didn't want to just buy from shop those alphabet magnet thingy and want to do all this? Honestly, I did not know. But I guess, partly was I love doing all this which fell into art and craft stuff, partly because I suddenly realised I didn't feel like throwing away all the stacks of boards.

Drawing & Cutting the squares.

Drawing the squares was easy peasy for me but cutting them took some time. I preferred a curve sides so that the square alphabets were not pointy and sharp at the sides. So cutting out the squares then shaping the corner curve with scissors took some time.

Patience makes perfect. Or slow and steady win the race. Gotto patiently cut all the squares first and then trimmed off the corners. You noticed I collected some ice cream sticks as well as the bread tags. Lol.

Writing characters

Using black permanent markers, I wrote ABC and 123 and characters and symbols needed for my homeschooling journey, to show my son and he loved it. That gave ne motivation to continue the work, to cut cut more squares and to complete as many squares as possible.

It actually took me few days to do this because in between, I would be busy with housechores too. Anyway, this was my achievement so far.

And, as the first photo shown above in this blog, I played with the alphabets to form the words 'HIVE BLOG'. Enjoy your journey here at Hive.
