Hello, creative Hivers! I hope you are all doing great wherever you are. If not don't worry, everything will fall in place.
It's been a while since I made a dress for myself, no thanks to my busy schedule at work, the funny thing is I make new dresses every week for others, but when it gets to my turn, I feel so tired and would rather use the time to engage on hive or rest. I will be attending a friend's introduction ceremony this weekend, yay!, my friend is getting married to the man of her dreams, I'm so excited to witness this forthcoming occasion, so this beautiful ankara print was picked by her to distinguish her friends who would also be her bride's maid during the white wedding. I can't miss Angela's introduction ceremony for anything, even though she lives in another city, I promised to make it there and that means I have no choice but to make myself a new dress.
I decided to go with a more African style with a northern style pattern since she will be getting married to a northerner. It's a simple straight gown with wrap and a funnel sleeve. So, stay tuned as I take you through the making process.

Cutting and sewing process
Step 1
I started by drafting and cutting out the front part of the upper front part of the town, it has a Queen Anne neckline.
Step 2
Next, I drafted the upper back pattern and also cut it out.
Step 3
I cut out the lower part of the gown using a straight skirt pattern for both the front and back.
Step 4
I joined the front patterns together and also turned them using the lining fabric.
Step 5
Continuing, I joined the back pattern and turned it with its lining fabric.
Step 6
Using the front lower part, I replicated it to form the wrap part of the gown and made a curve around the edge
Step 7
I designed the curved part of the wrap side and the sleeve using this purple trimming, by sewing it around the specified area.
Step 8
I joined the upper to the lower part of the dress and also added a zipper to the back for easy wearing, For the sleeves, I cut out the funnel sleeves pattern which is made using a basic and flare pattern, and here is the final look. Beautiful isn't it?
So what do you think of this design? I'd love to read all your lovely feedback.
