Dungeons and Dragons Tabletop Room Foams Redesigned for Sound Echo Problems

As you can see in this post I mentioned a couple of days ago, some sound insulation and echo canceling foam material started to fall in the room we made for the dungeons and dragons game project.

Since we were thinking about this project for youtube, what we decided to do was to solve the sound echo problem in an AESTHETIC way as soon as possible and frankly, I think it is much more beautiful like this.

We first took the material we had to laser cutting. Our close friend working there didn't charge us any money. We had glued it flat before and it looked very ugly. They were not all flat. There was a curvature and it looked bad. But now it is possible to see that it is more beautiful.

We decided to cut them all in a hexagonal shape with laser cutting. I can say that we chose this design because it resembles HIVE and because it resembles the shapes of the dice used in the Dungeons and Dragons game. Actually, we were thinking of making an arrangement with triangles and squares, but we decided to change.

Because of our previous bad experience with tape, we used adhesive silicone this time

Some silicones have too much odor and carcinogens. That's why we did some research and visited a few hardware stores. After we found out how strong the silicones they had were and what they were used for, we bought them. This time we didn't want to buy something directly weak. We didn't want to buy material we didn't know.

One of the hardware stores offered us a bad silicone gun. I can even say that he didn't even charge us for it. But we realized that it was a very bad gun and we went to the construction workers working on our street. They showed hospitality and trusted us and gave us their silicone guns. The gun you see in the picture is a gun we got from the construction workers on our street.

Anyway, afterward we glued them all together using this silicone. The measuring device we used was cut out of wood with a laser cutter. Thanks to this cutting, everything was equal. It was very important that the distance between all of them was equal.

We measured and measured again and again to get it evenly applied.

We plan to publish this project on YouTube. Maybe we can even share some videos on the hive platform.
I need to talk about it again with my friends. That's why, because it will be a project that we will publish, it has to look good. The height from the ground and the things that will be visible where the camera will take it are very important.

Nowadays, social media content is consumed very FAST and very SERIAL and very MUCH. But we will not do it in a short way, our videos will be long, and this room will not change for a long time. That's why we need to paste it properly.

I can say that I am very satisfied with the result. It looks much better now than it used to and it definitely feels cleaner. It feels more cared for.

It feels more professional. We were surprised to see something so different with just laser cutting. By the way, did you know that the painting in the room was done by a friend who is in the hive?
The person who made this painting is @elwnyx . I don't hesitate to say that it is our favorite thing in the room.

You can also see Tiamat, the second fav, which we made before, here.

Our Steps

  • First of all, we removed the black, dark and unaesthetic material that created a bad image on the wall.

  • Then we searched for a design for this material. We saw on the internet that beautiful designs were made with squares and triangles. But then we liked the hive design more. And we decided to use it.

  • We took it to our friend who has a laser cutting device and he cut and trimmed all of them beautifully for us with laser cutting in the same size.

  • He also cut them with a measuring device so that they were the right distance apart.

  • We searched for the right material for gluing and chose the silicone that we believed to be healthy.

  • We measured it many times before bonding it with silicone.

  • We glued them all calmly and without rushing.

And here is the final product! I hope you like it. There will be videos coming soon. We are excited. Thank you very much for reading.

Muy buen diseño, amo esa cortadora laser con la que cuentan es tremenda maquina. Se viene ese sistema de aislamiento acústico 2.0

Good work team!
Congratulations honey ♥️

This is adorable and amazing. My dream wall for my bedroom wall, but that specific foam it's impossible expensive in my country. Beautiful work.

Love the design you created with the new shapes of the echo cancellation. Suits perfectly with the red carpet!

Love the design! Super cool. You guys did a fantastic work!

Thank you so much for the kind comment, I love it as well ☺️🙏🏻🙏🏻

Now that looks frikkin amazing bud!!

Nice idea for a game room!!

Yeah it makes me feel like a pro ahahahah 😄😄😄

I admire your dedication!
It looks great, I would never thought of use this type of foam this way. I was always thinking, it works well if one wants to soundproof the room o something, but as a decorative bit looks really cool:)

The table seem to have interesting shape as well. Is it few tables put together?

Yes the table is a design as well. It is made for this project by the same guy who laser cut our foams 🤗🙏🏻

I liked the outcome very much. This is pure genius✨

Great job 🌷

I've been trying to find HEAVY curtains for my office to help with echo and improve the acoustics. It is proving such a difficult endeavour to find something that is good quality, and also in stock. Frustrating. I don't have enough wall space to stick foam to the walls in the room, so curtains and a rug are really my only options!

curtains are suggested to me as well but to be honest I love this design more😁

It does look pretty great!

if you plan to buy or try it, my suggestion is minimum 4cm thick ones. The ones you see in the picture are 2 cm thick. 🙏🙏

Yay! 🤗

I really liked this idea and very unique. Not only did the design inspiration you got from Hive but also you did it nicely. Such a great way to solve the sound echo problem.

Thank you for everything 🙏🏻 I hope we will have similar success with hive as well ☺️☺️

Im super down with idea! Sound and echo and especially bass reverb in the corners is really a challenge in a lot of (symmetrical) rooms. Been looking for ideas for a while now but this is also a cool one! Thanks for the inspiration !

It is a very good feeling for me to inspire someone. Thank you very much for your valuable comment. There are also different designs, if you can cut it, we were going to make a similar design using triangles at first. It can look very nice that way too.

You can be inspired especially by the designs of geometric tattoos 🙏🙏

Did it make a noticeable difference to the echo?

Yes, these foams helped with the sound echo and when we record, we get less echo in the microphone. BUT before that we had already ordered Glass Wool Acoustic Panel for the ceiling. I am sure there will be no echo in the room after they arrive. After 20 working days they will also be delivered.

We used the thinnest foam because we found it at a cheap price. If I were to buy them now, I would buy 4cm thick. These are 2cm thick.

Still, I was also surprised that they worked despite their thinness.
