Kite making and kite flying in my area in the province of Cebu Philippines is very present between October and March.
So when the weather is good and the light wind blows it's the best day to make a kite and today I'm sharing with you how my kids and kids at heart fly a kite this windy day around our place.
Tabanog is our local term for kites. It can be made from broomsticks or bamboo sticks that form into different shapes tied and covered with different colours of plastics using glue. If you like it more attractive and noisy so everyone can look up at your masterpiece you can attach a piece of stick curve using fibre from a rice sack.
When windy days come and now that Carlo my eldest knows how to play kites already. I have this problem looking for him anywhere in the flat rice fields even sometimes I got angry because he often forgot to go home for his lunch.
And there were times when I woke up late and I noticed my two boys are already gone. Since I think the possible reason already I try to find them and so I took a photo of them for me to share how they are fun with this old Filipino tradition.
Even though I already know where to find them but I was amazed at what I'd seen. I saw the two of them making teamwork to fly the kite.
They didn't notice me coming but when I call their names they just give me that face 😍.
Later on, I explained to them that the kite their playing is broken and it could not fly even they try so hard. So I let them go home for a shower and breakfast and promised them to give them a new kite that will fly the next day.
So I ask some relative to make me a kite for 50 pesos (1$) and the following day Carlo got his new kite.
Until now he still had his kite and it gives me a headache sometimes to call him for his modules but it's still fine he still manages to finish his task and I know he should have fun with this simple toy than to do gadgets.
Here also, kids at heart love to fly kites almost every day they even made a giant kite to fly. Thankfully we have wide vacant rice fields today where they can enjoy flying kites without restriction
How about you have tried flying kites also?
