Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is an issue that affects more individuals than one might think. For me, this condition predominantly affected my hands and feet, causing embarrassing situations. Shaking hands during an introduction or meeting was a source of anxiety, and visiting places where removing shoes was customary was nothing short of a nightmare. Not to mention, the constant concern about unpleasant odors made social situations stressful.
Investigating potential solutions, I came across commercial iontophoresis devices. However, their exorbitant prices were a significant deterrent. Instead of being discouraged, I took matters into my own hands—quite literally—and decided to create a DIY iontophoresis device.
With the help of Amazon, I gathered the necessary supplies: a 12-volt battery, alligator clips, stainless steel pans, salt, water, and a sponge cloth. The total cost was a fraction of what I would have spent on a commercial device.
The device's setup is straightforward: the alligator clips connect the battery to the stainless steel pans filled with saltwater. I placed my hands or feet on the wet sponge cloth in the pans and ran the device for about 20-30 minutes.
After several sessions, I noticed a significant reduction in my excessive sweating. While the hyperhidrosis hasn't disappeared completely, the improvement has been life-changing. I feel more confident, less self-conscious, and the dread of social interactions is slowly fading away.
Safety is paramount when using such a device. I recommend applying a moisturizer lotion before each session to protect sensitive skin. Also, remember you're dealing with electricity, even if it's from a battery, so ensure your setup is safe and free from any potential hazards.
Although this DIY approach has worked wonders for me, it's essential to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new treatment, especially if you have existing health conditions like heart problems.
This DIY iontophoresis journey has proven to be a game-changer for me. If you, too, are grappling with hyperhidrosis and the high costs of commercial treatments, this could be a solution worth exploring. However, remember to do your research, prioritize safety, and consult with a healthcare provider first.
Setting up the device was simple:
- I filled the stainless steel pans with water(with salt).
- Placed a sponge cloth in each pan.
- Attached an alligator clip to each pan, connecting to the positive and negative terminals of the battery respectively.
- I placed my hands or feet on the sponge cloths in the pans.
- Ran the device for 20 minutes.
- After 20 minutes, I reversed the alligator clips, switching the connection to the opposite terminals on the battery.
- Continued the process for another 20 minutes.
Following this procedure consistently, I noticed a significant reduction in my sweating. Although not completely eradicated, the excessive sweating was much more manageable, boosting my confidence significantly in social interactions.
