Hi fellow hivers and ReggaeJahmmers. Hoping you had a great week and that your weekend is going well.
My week was very busy but it was well-spent. It was so busy that it feels like two weekends were merged into one. This week I’m dashing out some meals and treats I had over the course of the week. I’ll also be dashing out some relaxation vibes. Stay with me as I share with you what was an eventful week.
Sports Day (National Holiday in Japan)
Last Monday, October 10, was Sports Day, a public holiday in Japan. It so happened that it was also Sports Day for my kids’ school. It meant that instead of having a holiday on Monday, the students would have had a holiday on Tuesday. It had rained a lot over the weekend so we weren’t sure if their day of sporting activities would have been postponed. Honestly, I was hoping that it would have been because I was already tired and figured that the grounds would have been wet and not ideal for the event. We got a message from the school that by 7 a.m of morning of the event, they would have confirmed whether it would be on.
Based on the weather, maybe most parents were mentally prepared for the postponement. Lo and behold, at 6:55 a.m on the morning of the 10th, a message came in that the event was on and would have started at 9 a.m.
I got up quickly, went to the kitchen and started preparing lunch for the day. Luckily, we had picked up some food from the supermarket. I mostly had to just cut, arrange them and add a few food items. We had some fruits, rolled eggs with cucumber 🥒 and carrot 🥕 curls, croquettes, fried chicken and sausages.
Slices of orange and balls of pear.
On The Field
As expected the grounds were wet. It even rained a little but all events went on. There was tug-of-war, sprints, paraballoon, ball games, dancing games, gymnastics 🤸♀️ and a parents’ race. I’m so proud of @bearmol. He ran and came third but he was so fast. The lanes weren’t clear and I could see him trying to make his way to pass those who were blocking him. Last year he came first and maybe he came second the year before that. I support him all the way especially because if he hadn’t run, I’d would have had to and I’m no runner. 😂🤣
When others know you’re from Jamaica 🇯🇲, they assume you’re fast. That’s not the case for all of us. Haha!!!
Kudos to those like @bearmol who can truly represent.
Our sons are under this colorful paraballoon.
Students did various formations
One of our sons in action. It was so good to see them perform. I then understood the reasons they’d flip and do somersaults on the bed. They were practicing for Sports Day. It’s hard to gauge practice without worrying about them breaking themselves and the house apart. Lol!
Camp Time
Though we were very tired after Sports Day, we had to prepare our kids for a 3-day (for our younger son) and 4-day camp ( for our older son). They were off from school on Tuesday and so was I. I spent the day helping them label and pack their items. They left for camp early Wednesday morning. I had to send them with lunch for the first day. Lunch was pretty similar to that which they had on Sports Day.
The boxes had fried chicken, rolled eggs, edamame, cucumber curls, small balls of apple and boiled carrot, grape and heart-shaped cuts of apple. We gave them one rice ball each to go with the meal.
Unexpected Reaction
Our boys are twelve and eight. Both of them going to camp at the same time meant that for the first time in twelve years, huzzy and I would together be spending a few nights from the kids. We looked forward to this moment. As a matter of fact, we were supposed to first have this experience about three years ago but corona decided to interrupt.
After dropping off the boys, I thought I’d felt free. To my surprise, I just kept wiping my eyes. It’s a good thing huzzy was the one driving because I could hardly see. Most times I’m home with the boys. It dawned on me that they wouldn’t be around. Huzzy being supportive and dry-eyed, consoled me by circling around the school a bit so I could see them boarding the bus. I hid my face so that the boys wouldn’t see me. I felt kind of embarrassed but was mostly surprised that their leaving had such an effect.
Picking Figs
I was so happy that @bearmol had taken the day off. After seeing the kids off, we went fig-picking. It was our first time to do it so that was a good distraction from me missing the kids. Instead of choosing the all-you-can-eat option, we chose to pick figs and go. We weren't sure if eating too many figs would have gone well with us especially since it’s such a soft fruit. We enjoyed picking and posed by the nearby rice fields afterwards.
Relaxation Vibes
After fruit picking, we relaxed over a lovely lunch. When we got home we chilled, watched some
movies, made some jerk chicken and ate it with Excelsior water crackers. Dinner was simple. It dawned on us that it had been a while since we sat down to watch movies, full movies. It was a good experience. We didn’t have the think about the kids’ food preferences or any form of disturbance. We just ate freely. Lol!
Well… now the kids are back. We’re happy to have them back and grateful for the time they spent at camp.
How do you like to spend your time set for relaxation or what do you do to relax?
Thank you for reading my post.
Have a wonderful weekend.
