Hello everyone!
Winter has arrived, even though many disasters have occurred, such as the typhoon storm that hit the Philippines which was very detrimental and had an impact on other countries, including my area which is the western part of Indonesia. It rained in our area for a week, it rained without a break which resulted in flooding in my area, making it difficult to go anywhere.
Also many rice fields are flooded, making the farmers fail to harvest, this is the complaint of my neighbor who is a rice farmer. He suffered a lot of losses, because his field was only half way to harvest, so he had to go home and take care of it.
When they came back from the village, they brought a lot of corn (coincidentally he also farmed corn) and gave me a kilo of fresh and young corn. He said it had just been harvested, and this corn was his greatest hope to make up for the losses he had suffered.
Because the weather is also not friendly, I really want to entertain my neighbor with the ingredients he gives will be food that can be eaten and delicious, and most importantly, this food can warm the body. Also because I'm going home tomorrow, so I can't let this corn rot in my kitchen. It's my habit when I come home to spend the contents of the refrigerator or food ingredients that may not last long (rot quickly) then I share all this food with my neighbors, so that my kitchen will not smell and be dirty.
My husband said he wanted to eat 'Grontol Jagung'. It is a food made of corn and coconut mixed with the sweetness of sugar.
Curious about the recipe? Let's see the following recipe!
Grontol Jagung Ingredients:
- 1 Kg Corn
- Grated coconut
- 2 pandan leaves
- Banana leaf
- 2 tablespoons Sugar
- Pinch of salt
- Water
How to Make Grontol Jagung
- Peeled corn, I used milk corn, this is corn that has a sweet and soft taste, usually also called vietnamese corn.
- Then grate the corn using a spoon, then wash it with running water
- Fill the steamer with water, then heat the steamer.
- To add flavor, I use banana leaves as a base for the steamer, and add 2 leaves pandan then put corn on top. Cover and cook for 15 minutes.
- After that, add 2 tablespoons of sugar and pinch of salt. Stir until well blended.
Then add 200 grams of grated coconut, stir again until well blended.
- Close the steamer and let it sit for 10 minutes.
- While waiting for the corn kernels to ripen, form takir (food containers made of banana leaves) using the box shape technique. That is a banana leaf with a width of 5 cm and a length of 20 cm, sliced in half and folded perfectly to form a box. Then hekter on the last piece to form a box like the picture. Cut 4x4 cm banana leaves as a base on takir so the corn don't spill.
- Grontol Jagung is ready to be served when it's warm!
Easy how to make it isn’t?
If you serve it without measure, you can, maybe if you have trouble finding banana leaves, you can use pandan leaves too.
Can be eaten together with family, especially for dishes to welcome the new year's holiday!
