Hello friends in Architecture+Design, Bridges are one of the important infrastructure facilities that can connect several areas separated by rivers, lakes or oceans. Today I will share information about the Tano Ponggol bridge in Samosir Regency, North Sumatra Province. Based on the data I got from
https://jambiekspres.disway.id/read/661769/setelah-110-tahun-jembatan-aek-tano-ponggol-tampil-dengan-wajah-baru-tembus-ke-samosir,
Tano Ponggol Bridge is the only bridge that connects the mainland of Sumatra Island with Samosir Island which is located on Lake Toba. The Tano Ponggol Bridge is 294 meters long and is a historic bridge. This bridge was first built during the Dutch colonial period and was inaugurated in 1913 by queen Wilhelmina. At first the Tano Ponggol bridge was built with a length of 16 meters. In 2020, the Tano Ponggol bridge was rebuilt by the PUPR ministry and completed in 2022.

Iconic Bridge

The Tano Ponggol Bridge is also an iconic bridge in North Sumatra, because this bridge is the only access to tourist destinations on the island of Samosir. Samosir Island is an island located in the middle of Lake Toba. This bridge is so iconic because the architecture of the bridge incorporates elements of traditional architecture, namely the architecture of the Toba Batak tribe.

Bridge Architecture

The architecture of the bridge that attracts the attention of visitors is the bright red color that adorns the bridge. This bridge is given a red color because it adapts to the traditional architecture of the Toba Batak tribe which is dominated by red. The red color depicts the spirit and heroism of the Toba Batak people, because of that the entire red bridge piers are one of the typical ornaments of the Batak tribe called "Dalihan Na Tolu".

The architecture of the Tano Ponggol Bridge, which has a length of 294 meters, is divided into 2 parts, namely the main bridge with a length of 179 meters and the approaching bridge with a length of 155 meters. The main bridge architecture consists of 3 spans, the main span has a length of 99 meters and uses the main structure in the form of a box girder. While the architecture of the approach bridge consists of 4 spans with 1 girder prestressed main structure.

The architecture of the Tano Ponggol bridge is a bridge with an ordinary structure, namely a box girder structure. To beautify this bridge, this bridge uses the concept of pylon beautification, because of that all the pillars and also the bridge girders are red.

Greetings @umirais, what a beautiful bridge, its red color makes it striking and combines very well with the green mountain, the view from the bridge is really fascinating, beautiful landscapes can be seen from there, a great work of architecture to unite the cities and contemplate the beauty of the place.
