After so many times my friends told me that I needed an online store to share my interior design creations, I finally did it. I've been writing about decoration for five years now and, more precisely, three years since I transformed my home with a lot of sustainable, do-it-yourself renovations.
So I thought it was about time I put this store live. It took weeks of work to get the layout just the way I wanted it, while at the same time preparing all the tax paperwork and inventing products to supply the site. I thought I was going to go crazy 😛
For a while now, I've been creating stickers with the phrases that come out of my notebooks and making them available to people who want to decorate their walls with them (all in Portuguese, for now).
These phrases were such a hit with my followers that I recently created new models and I'm very happy that this weekend I made my first sale of one of these new options.
But I've also decided to make other sticker options with graphic art and my watercolor drawings. And that's been really cool, because I've loved seeing the way my clients use my work to decorate their homes. This floral sticker, for example, was designed to be glued onto ceramic plates and then hung on the walls as a decorative object... But I've already received images of people sticking them in different places and showing all their creativity when it comes to decorating their homes, since they can be stuck on walls, wood, fridges and other objects.
The latest model is the strawberry sticker. This one I drew by hand and painted with watercolors, then made the sticker packs before sending them to the printers.
The last thing I did with this model was to paint a shelf pink and then stick the strawberry stickers as a cute detail on the wood. I placed the shelf above my bedroom door and thought it looked like a doorway.
This hallway is now all colorful, as there was already the rose painting I did on the wall jambs. I love looking at this corner and seeing that everything there has my personal touch and was made by me.
I've always given vent to my creativity in the most diverse ways possible -- and you can see this by looking at the other posts on my blog -- but I've never been good at entrepreneurship and turning my work into products, or my talent into a business.
Being an entrepreneur is one of the biggest challenges of my life and the first few weeks of the store being launched have confirmed that. It's not easy to make a living from art in Brazil. There are no incentives for small artists, artisans and others. And society in general is also still unaware of the need to support and value these people.
Despite this challenging experience, I'm optimistic and hopeful that my store will do well. I'm very happy to see my art present in other homes and that's very magical. I hope you enjoy it!
