Hi everyone! It is the month of Halloween and since I love the spooky vibes, I could not resist of painting something. It is a watercolour painting and I enjoyed creating this artwork of a witch plucking a poison apple. Below is the process of the painting.
Tools and Materials
- a watercolour paper
- Buncho watercolours
- a small round brush
- a HB pencil
- a dustfree eraser
- a tissue paper for absorbing excess water
- a mixing palette
- a jar of water
- a white charcoal pencil
The Process
This is a little guide I made before the actual drawing so I can get the proportions right.
This is the final drawing and it is quite simple. I thought of adding more details as I paint.
This is the first layer of painting, here and there. I had to leave each parts to dry well before continuing as I wasn't using artist grade paper. It absorbs water but requires plenty of time to dry throughout the process.
I added more dark colours to intensify the spookiness which is why I used some blue. You may not notice but I mixed in some purple as well into the green. I also used multiple warm colours like red and yellow for the moon.
I gave the tree a little base layer of paint in brown although I will be covering it up later. I did the same for her dress.
Here I have added black to the tree as it is at night. However most parts of the tree are actually mixed with brown and some green. Only the edges and shadow details were in pure black.
This is my workspace :D
I painted more black for the shadows of the leafless tree. Then I added more veiny branches to make it more creepy looking. I also added some dark smokes all around the setting.
This is the final outcome. I used a white charcoal pencil to create some highlights on the tree and the dress of the witch. I also used it all over the last quarter of the painting for more smoky effect. Not to forget the little glow on the poison apple as well.
Here's a closer look with a diagonal angle. I had fun painting it and I hope I didn't bore you with my lengthy writing.
Happy Halloween to everyone who is celebrating and have fun Trick or Treating! Thank you for dropping by =)
