🌴My Palm Tree Painting🌴

How are you fellow Hive artists or Hartists doing? Today I'd like to share with you a little painting I just finished in my bathroom that I hope will add some creativity to my otherwise boring and tiny shaving mirror.

I'm a disabled American veteran and the Veteran's Administration was good enough to let me retrain for a new job during the pandemic so I chose to study Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I learned a lot during my nine-month course, but I doubt I remember even five percent of what I studied. I was a bit disappointed that all of my teachers were just Adobe and Apple shills, to be honest. One of the classes was traditional painting. I did not like that class at all because it's not what I wanted to learn about, but I still have these tiny tubes of paint left so I put them to use making my palm tree here.

When looking for a cooler title for this post than just, 🌴Palm Tree🌴, I asked Google for slang words for palm tree and it said palm trees are slang for a gay guy. I've never heard that before. How is a palm tree gay? Who comes up with this stuff?

I was happy with the coconuts, but I thought I'd start with some black for the shadows. I overdid it. I always do this when painting. Now the whole damn thing is black. It's OK. I can fix this...

The cloud is looking lame so let's add some purple. I don't have any purple so I'll have to mix some red and blue to get it. I was looking for a lighter purple, but I was getting too much paint so I just went with this dark shade.

I added a purple frame around the tiny mirror and gave some more color to the cloud and a bit to the tree trunk and coconuts. It's not too noticeable, but I thought since the cloud is purple some of that light would reflect onto the tree a bit.

I learned my lesson with the black paint so I didn't go crazy with the brown this time.

The cap of the green tube of paint cracked in half when opening it so I had to go all in with the green and squeeze it all out.

7.jpg

Oh no. The baby is crying. The Rubik's cube wasn't enough to keep her happy. Time to wash my hands so I don't get green paint on her. I told my wife that she should just let the baby cry or she'll cry all the time, but of course, she didn't listen and Jessica cries if we don't hold her.

I just globbed on as much light green paint onto my little brush and tried to make as long strokes as I could. This was the most enjoyable part of the painting for me because I didn't hold back.

Almost done. The dark green is gone, but there is still some light green left so I'll use that all up too.

It's a good thing I ran out of paint or I'd just keep going and screw it up again. Thanks for reading about my palm tree painting today. What do you think? My wife doesn't like it, but it makes me happy and that's all that matters right? She's too short to use the mirror anyways.

Very cool painting. I love the fact you started from dark then introduced colors later.
