Hello artist friends I hope you are very well, I want to share with you my latest work with acrylic paints, I have painted a bird known in Venezuela as Turpial. In our country it is considered our national symbol, its scientific name is Icterus icterus and it is a species that is seen more frequently in northern South America and is related to the Baltimore Oriole. I have made the painting on an old piece of wood from an old piece of furniture, I removed it and prepared it to be able to paint over it and do something different this time, I hope you like it!
Hola amigos artistas espero que se encuentren muy bien, quiero compartir con ustedes mi último trabajo con pinturas acrílicas, he pintado un ave conocida en Venezuela como Turpial. En nuestro país es considerada nuestro símbolo nacional, su nombre científico es Icterus icterus y es una especie que se ve con másm frecuencia en el norte de Suramerica y está emparentado con el Oriol de Baltimore. La pintura la he realizado sobre un viejo retazo de madera de un antiguo mueble, la quité y la preparé para poder pintar encima de ella y hacer algo diferente esta vez, espero les guste!

The first step was to prepare the wood, since it was somewhat old with obvious signs of deterioration, I looked for various types of sandpaper to sand the entire surface where I was going to paint with acrylic paints. Then I cleaned the wood of the residue and wiped it with a damp piece of cloth, once the wood was dry I drew the sketch of the Turpial with a pencil and began to prepare the tones that I was going to use.
El primer paso fue preparar la madera, ya que era algo vieja con evidentes signos de deterioro busqué varios tipos de lijas para lijar toda la superficie por donde iba a pintar con las pinturas acrílicas. Después limpié la madera de los residuos y la limpie con un pedazo de tela húmedo, una vez que se secó la madera dibujé el boceto del Turpial con lápiz y comencé a prepar los tonoces que iba a utilizar.

I started painting the beak of the bird using a very fine brush and white paint, but I also made several mixtures to make blue and black tones in the beak, since the white part is like that because of the reflection of light, but this bird is characterized because it has a black beak. In the same way I'm inking the dark areas mixing blue with black, in the area of the head I'm delimiting the eye the rest of the feathers that will be black.
Comencé pintando el pico del ave utilizando un pincel muy fino y la pintra blanca, peor también hice varias mezclas para hacer tonos azules y negros en el pico, ya que la parte blanca es así por el reflejo de la luz, pero esta ave se caracteriza por tener el pico negro. De la misma forma voy intando las zonas oscuras mezclando el azul con el negro, en el área de la cabeza voy delimitando el ojo el resto de plumas que irán de color negro.

Then I began to paint the head completely, first with brushstrokes of unmixed black, I did this as a base and from there I began to lighten, the black in the plumage of birds usually reflects other colors. In the same way I also drew the eye, taking good care of the detail so that it looked realistic, the eyes of the birds are always alive, then with a mixture of black and white I made a dark gray to get the reflections of the black feathers before mix with yellow.
Despues comencé a pintar la cabeza por completo, primero con pinceladas de color negro sin mezclar, esto lo hice como forma de base y de ahí comenzar a aclarar, el negro en el plumaje de las aves suele reflejarse de otros colores. De igual forma también dibuje el ojo, cuidando muy bien el detalle de que se viera realista, los ojos de las aves siempre son vivos, luego con una mezcla de blanco y negro hice un gris oscuro para sacar los reflejos de las plumas negras antes de mezclarse con el amarillo.

Then I started to paint the Turpial's wings, the objective is to paint all the parts that are black and then the rest, for this I used another kind of cat's tongue brush, which is the best thing that exists to paint feathers and make effects on they. So I'm painting black, and then I'm lightening a little to get reflections in the feathers and also to paint other pmulas gray, since it doesn't only have black feathers. In the same way I paint white reflections and white wings that are characteristic of this bird.
Seguidamente comencé a pintar las alas del Turpial, el objetivo es pintar todas las partes que van de color negro y luego el resto, para esto utilicé otra clase de pincel lengua de gato, que es lo mejor que existe para pintar plumas y hacer efectos sobre ellas. Así que voy pintando de color negro, y luego voy aclarando un poco para sacar reflejos en las plumas y también para pintar otras pmulas de color gris, ya que no solo tiene plumas negras. De la misma forma pinto reflejos blancos y alas de color blanco que son características de esta ave.

Now if I go on to paint the other feathers, but I don't just paint them yellow, but I make a mixture between two tones and thus give more life to those feathers. I use a cadmium yellow mixed with orange. So vou painting some areas lighter than others, the darkest part is obviously the lower part of the body of the Turpial. After this I make its small limbs including its small claws with which it holds on to the branch.
Ahora si paso a pintar las otras plumas, pero no las pinto de amarillo solamente sino que hago una mezcla entre dos tonos y así darle más vida a esas plumas. Utilizo un amarillo cadmio unido con naranja. Así vou pintando unas zonas más claras que otras, la parte más oscura obviamente es la zona inferior del cuerpo del Turpial. Luego de esto hago sus pequeñas extremidades incluyendo sus pequeñas garras con las que se sostiene de la rama.

To finish the drawing I also painted the branch something gray and white and added some leaves, so I also corrected some details and added more brushstrokes where I thought it was most necessary, that way I finished the painting.
Para finzalizar el dibujo pinté también la rama algo gris y blanco y agregué unas hojas, así tambien corregí algunos detalles y agregué más pinceladas donde creí más necesario, de esa forma di por finalizada la pintura.
This is how this beautiful painting was finished, it is the first time that I make this kind of painting using wood as a background, instead of the traditional canvas that I always use. I liked the fact of giving a piece of wood that went to the garbage a chance, it is a sign that we can do great things from the most insignificant, I think it just needs a good varnish and this painting will be beautiful in the living room any home.. Así quedó finalizado esta hermosa pintura, es la primera vez que hago esta clase de pinturas utilizando una madera como fondo, en lguar del lienzo tradicional que siempre suelo utilizar. Me gustó el hecho de darle una oportunidad a un pedazo de madera que iba a la basura, es una muestra de que podemos hacer grandes cosas desde lo más insignificante, creo que solo le falta un buen barníz y esta pintura quedará hermosa en la sala de cualquier hogar..
