Drawing Melanie Martinez

From past some months it's been an habit for me to do a sketch weekly where I just take cute references I found on Pinterest and try to draw them with just pencils .
Then I post about the study and what I learnt through it . Till now I feel I have gotten faster at drawing and I can see how to add little value is more than enough . It's been a great journey tbh and yes practice really does make you perfect .

So with that being said let's get into it . This week I'm drawing Melanie Martinez reference from K-12 album . I love Melanie Martinez and her costume selection always so pastel and tutu vibe like a baby core goth . I love her dresses that give me nursery kid vibes also I love her half half cruella inspired
Hair style .

I start with just like a basic sketch with a 2H pencil I just marked the shapes I saw and kept going . The thing about it is that once I draw the proportions big or wide I can always correct them as I go onwards Soo it was a very loose sketch and it does look like Melanie at all but we will see as we keep going and trust the process . So the first thing I do is take my 3b Pencil and I start cross hatching half her bangs on right side and her eyes since her eyebrows and eyelashes were the things that had most value and we're dark in the whole image . I start making droopy eyebrows little bent downwards and squinted eyes . I lightly shaded the nose a little too.
Then I just blended it all with a blending stump. With that same blending stump I will lightly make some strands for the blonde side the trick is we only make the shadow areas for the blond hair .

Next I added some hatch on the cheeks below the apple so it looks like a baby chubby face .I also added some value to the side hair that were going in a pony and I erased it till upward blending it all . Next I added a bow over her head . I lightly shaded the lips even .

Now for the most fun Part the dress . So the dress was very frilly and poofy so I started drawing frills and laces and the poofy sleeves and I blended it all up I lightly shaded the areas where we needed more shadows and blended them softly .

Here is the finished piece .

I m a huge Melanie Martinez fan so I loved doing this and well I feel singers and artists actually are great references to draw the reason being is that they always have pretty designer dresses specially in music videos so I love drawing them .

That's all for today Thank you for your precious time and support ❤️
