The bed, and screwing in the bedroom

Real intimacy depends on truth - lovingly told - especially in the bedroom.

At first glance it was a typical Sunday: Sleep in, breakfast, coffee, cuddles with Cleo and some thought towards what I might do with my day. It was right about then I remembered something I'd decided to do much earlier in the week and today was the day. There were two things really and both involved the bedroom.

The bed

I bought a new mattress a couple years ago but figured the bed frame would be good to go for another few years. It was, but that brings me to this point in time - new bed time - and today I hauled myself off to a local furniture store that specialises in bedroom, living room and outdoor entertainment area furniture in search of a new bed.

I decided on one with a base that has some drawers in it for a little extra storage. It's made of timber and all white which will look quite nice I think.

The process didn't take too long because I wasn't selecting mattresses so there was no trying out required. I simply measured up, selected and paid. It's due here on Tuesday as they had one in stock and that's that...besides the millions of pillows and cushions that will eventually make their way on to the bed over the next couple weeks I'm sure. That's not something I have any power over, no man does, so I simply have to accept it and move on.

The bed was $700 off the retail price and I felt good about that, but the $99 delivery cost put a frown on my face, but nothing a coffee and cake at a café afterwards couldn't fix.

The day was going quite well and was set to get better as, after the café, I was heading to the hardware store which always makes my day; tools and hardware have that effect on me.

The screwing

I'm somewhat of a do it yourself sort of chap and am happy to tackle jobs around the house. Screwing doesn't take much technical skill so it's well within my capability and, as it turns out, the screwing that was required was in the bedroom.

A few weeks ago I noticed the ceiling, made from a product called Gyprok, had dropped slightly and pulled away from the baton it's fixed to. Gyprok is a brand name for plasterboard and is widely used here for walls and ceilings. It's glued to the wooden batons and nailed or screwed to hold it in place whilst the glue dries. It comes away sometimes though.

It's only pulled through two nails so it's a small fix and I decided to use screws rather than nails as it's simply easier. The plan is brilliant in its simplicity...

All I need to do is push the ceiling sheet up to baton (it's dropped by a few millimetres) and insert the screws using a drill (powered down so it doesn't fuck up the sheet) to fix the Gyprok back to the baton. I'll put in a couple either side of where it's dropped and a couple more a little further out to provide some additional strength. You can see the bugle head screws I bought to do the job above.

From there I'll have to patch over the new screws and where the nails pulled through also, and I bought a product called Spakfilla to do the job. It applies with a spatula then can be sanded smooth ready for painting. After slapping on some paint it'll be as good as new for years to come.

Whilst at the hardware store I ran into a mate and his wife and they ended up coming back to my place for a coffee where we spent an hour talking shit and then after they left I got into the ceiling repair which is all done now, besides the sanding and painting. That's for next weekend.

It's heading towards dinner time now, I'm making pizza tonight, and then I'll spend the evening watching the Formula One Grand Prix live from Hungary on TV. It's been a pretty decent weekend all up I guess, despite it being really cold here. It's ok though, weekends are always good right? I guess especially when one gets to screw in the bedroom.

If you feel so inclined comment below about your own weekend; let me know what you've been doing or what you will be doing as it rolls out. Have you done any DIY? Any screwing perchance?

$99 for delivery is really something. These delivery fees can be used to buy something worthwhile but we still can’t do without it

Delivery requires a two man team and a truck so it's about right to be honest, I'd just rather pay zero. Lol.

Oh okay
I get it

$700 for a bed!! Damn.
That's an awful lot of money for a bed here in my country Uganda.
$700 buys u much more than a bed.. it buys you the land on which you'll build the house in which you'll put a bed of $70.

Nope...It was $700 off the price...So, only $1100.

Delivery fees can sometimes be a turn off😪.

My weekend has basically been to catch up on my to-do list for last week.
Been up since 5am trying to format my book so I can publish latest this evening on Amazon. At the same time trying to finish my presentation topics. I have 2 presentations coming up.

In short, no DIY yet for me….

No rest for you then. I hope you get it all done.

I know right…
Thank you😀

Lol, titles can be misleading. I thought I was in for a steamy read there.
Glad you got yourself a new bed and Nice job on the ceiling as well xxxx

Haha, yes indeed. I like to do one of these every so often; it keeps people guessing and amuses me a little. You know that saying, small things amuse small minds. 😄

The $99 for the delivery will surely makes me rethink about buying the bed, good that you still buy it though.

Well, the bed was $1,800 reduced to $1,100 so $99 isn't too bad I guess.

She asked the bartender for a double entendre so he gave her one.

Double entendre...Such a nicer term than clickbait. 😊

I'm refined as shit, I am.

Lol.

This is how it is estimated, you always have to achieve things calmly, attentively as far as possible. Of course, our bed at home should be the main thing, to have a happy rest and if all its accessories are top of the line, better. Success friend @galenkp in your publication from Venezuela.

A good bed helps one get a good rest so I look forward to that in the days to come.

Here in Venezuela they are very expensive, we usually have them made, so that they last longer. Estimated successes @galenkp in your publication

They're expensive here too.

A good bed always give a good sleep😃

Indeed it does.

Hahaha seems like these kind of titles are becoming somewhat of a norm! ;)

I get a laugh out of it, so when the opportunity arises I'll take it. 😊

I feel so cheated!! All your besties showed up for a read.

Click Bsited.

Haha, well something has to be left to the imagination right?
