Ascension: The rise of G-dog

Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall.

- William Shakespeare -

Don't worry, I'm not rising from the dead in some sort of Halloween gimmick; that would mean I'm actually dead which, thankfully, I am not. I've still got too much to do on this planet before I check out: Donut and coffee eating, Lego making, sleeping and cuddling Cleo first amongst those things...Although, there's something that's taking priority this weekend and for that...I need to ascend.

My ascension this weekend will be by ladder and will only go as far as my roof; I know, it's not much of an ascension, but it's an essential ascension, one I've been putting off because of our unseasonably wet weather.

The last time I ascended, onto my roof, it didn't go so well. Basically, I fell off. You can read about it here if you want to.

I didn't die, but I can't go as far as saying I was totally impervious to the effects of gravity and the subsequent effects of crashing to the ground either. I got pretty fucked up to be honest, but I'm resilient, and on the weekend will ascend once more, and for the same reason. Gutter cleaning.

On the last occasion the doctor at the hospital, in all his wisdom, gave me some sage advice; don't fall off the roof. I know, it seems logical right?

I took that on board of course, and have that firmly in mind for my next foray to the dizzying heights of my roof. I'm also going to make sure there's someone else around this time, you know, to either break my fall, capture it all on video or call the ambulance or coroner, whichever is appropriate should I indeed fall. Of course, there's every chance of that person having to applaud and hail my roofly-magnificence should the roof-ascension, gutter cleaning and my return (safely) to the ground occur. I'm hoping for the latter.

I'm somewhat of a DIY sort of man. I'm not stubborn about it though, meaning if I deem a thing is too dangerous, beyond my skills or too important to simply give it a try then I'm happy to call in the experts and let them do it. I like turning my hand to things though, the planning, gathering of the stuff to do the job and the feel of tools in the hand...of course, there's that self-satisfaction of having done the work myself also. This is why I'm happy to risk life and limb up on my roof this weekend.

What's going on for you this weekend? Have you got anything planned and is it recreational or death-defying DIY like my ascension to my roof is? Feel free to let me know in the comments.

Do take care this time round! More or less another typical weekend for me, rest and recharge after a week of hard work, catch up with some friends over coffee!

That seems like a nice chilled weekend. Enjoy.

That would be the absolute worst halloween prank Galen, don't you dare fall off the roof. In fact, I dare you to NOT FALL OFF THE ROOF again!

While you're up there you might as well get some fun in. If you have a chimney, make some funky noises through it and see if anyone has a sense of humour.

Well, one never plans to fall off a roof, however sometimes gravity has plans if its own. I've notified the hospital that I'm getting up there, the executor of my estate and Satan. One must be prepared huh?

A properly placed trampoline could save you some trouble. Just bounce you right back up to work again.

Now here's someone who thinks laterally and with innovation! I'm on it for next time.

Not to contradict, but wouldn't that make me a vertical thinker?

Haha! Indeed it does!

I planned to visit a nature park over the weekend, it's going to be adventurous because I will be walking on the longest canopy in Africa, as high as a mountain.. I seriously can't wait.

So you're ascending too! Nice work. It should be a good time I'd say. I hope you enjoy it and have a good weekend in general.

@tipu curate

I'm thankful you are alive. The weather is suddenly back to the way it should be in October. I'm not planning on changing the world in a weekend, but I hope to get rid of some of our old stuff in the house and take a hike on the mountain.

A bit of house cleaning and a hike sounds like a really nice balance.

Have a great weekend.

You can use a harness and if you fall you can swing like a swing.

That works...I'll see what I can rig up!

I thought you aren't meant to climb ladders after 50...

Yeah, I heard that too. I got away with it today though. Roof duties done and dusted.

I'd like to take one more foray into the woods while the colors are magnificent! I'm going to say that they should be peak or close to it.

I'll save anything death-defying for the next weekend.

Be careful and put training wheels on that ladder!

!LUV

It's not the ladders fault, I blame gravity.

I hope you have a good weekend Swigs, find something nice to do in the woods.

Thank you! Truly, be careful! I have to post the markets and then I will be free to wander about the woods! I am a little excited. I have spent so much time there lately, I cannot possibly complain about not getting me time.

Thanks, Galen!

I'll be careful, no roof can dominate the G-dog! Besides, I'm hard to kill.

I hope you get lost in the woods for a while. It's a good place to be.

Yeh please don’t fall off the roof again 🤣 make sure it’s dry and there’s sometime else in the vicinity.

It’s states this weekend and I’m supposed to be roleplaying on Sunday but given how my group went last weekend I’ll not sure if I want to 💀 might just take this weekend off and try again next weekend, will see how I feel when confronted by dice tower designs 😆 (friend is making us dice towers)

A weekend off is always welcomed. I hope, no matter what you do, you have a good weekend.

I found out about 15min ago that there is no weekend off. I don't know why I thought any different, comps are always the entire weekend and 15yo and I cheer squad as well so of course we're going to be busy all day every day all weekend aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh.

It will be good, just exhausting XD

Easy come, easy go!

I'm sure you'll have a good time but yeah, it sounds like a bit of work also. You'll make the most of it and maybe it'll be an awesome weekend.

If you need a few cheer squad lines let me know. I'll come up with something. 🤔

We're a ragtag cheer squad, we just rock up to make numbers and scream encouragement at our club and try to shame encourage the other clubs to also make a lot of noise (maybe it's coz we're bogans but we're the loudest).

I reckon I could come up with some good cheer slogans...they may get you arrested though.

LoL! Maybe because it was a small round (all the boys, not many boy gymnasts unfortunately) nobody was very noisy today including us x_x but there was probably enough cheering done.

My God, be careful friend @galenkp, I understand that it is urgent to do that gutter cleaning, but already with the experience of your previous fall you must be more than careful. Make sure you have someone there to rescue you, or take photos, or record video, or call the ambulance lol. I wish you luck and the cleaning is perfect. Take care of yourself so that, as you say, you can continue eating donuts and coffee, building Legos, sleeping and hugging Cleo first among those things. Greetings and many blessings friend.

Haha, yeah someone to land on will help a lot.

It'll work out, I'll be careful. I learned a valuable lesson last time: I don't bounce very well. I haven't forgotten.

Have a great weekend.

hahahaha hahahaha if something like a human that serves as a mattress hahahaha hahahaha.

I wish you luck and many blessings my friend @galenkp.

Same to you happy weekend. Cheers.

😊

Gutters, I hate cleaning gutters. When I saw your post, I first thought of this...

Hahaha, Seriously I've had these Leafguard things put on a house before back in Missouri when I had a gazillion oak and pine trees around. They were fantastic. Expensive, but just fantastic. I've tried some similar, cheap snap-in protectors back in Colorado where we had lots of large Pine trees and they were ok the first year, but the second/third year they started bending in, blowing out with wind, and only partially effective. Cheap enough to replace a few panels each year if desired I suppose, but I don't like having to get up there and mess with them. Not worth a trip to the hospital (If you know what I mean...) lol -- Couldn't resist.

Anyway the best ones are the LeafGuard brand (photos courtesy of their site). They look like this... Something to think about if you plan to stay a while. Not sure you can get them there.

Haha! Yeah, I'm a Leafgaurd poster boy for sure!

I've not seen Leafgaurd here but we have one called guttergaurd which is similar although it's more of a clamp down mesh thing. I think it works ok.

My gutters don't actually get a lot of leaves, just some that blow in off gum trees nearby. I like to blow them out a couple times a year though, and make sure the downpipe inlets in the gutter are ear if debris. We have a stom inbound for Sunday so I'll get it done Saturday and hopefully not fall off.

The gutter guard is what I installed on the second house.. It did ok, but not as durable. Still didn't have to clean for 3 years... Ours would get piles stuck in the corners, and nearly the entire gutter lengths would be packed full and overflowing after the fall drop... That's one of the few drawbacks being surrounded by trees. Here in Vermont doesn't seem too bad so far, our house is in the middle of a clearing so doesn't seem to gather much with the trees further away. But haven't really looked since the big drop.. Guess it's time for a drone flight to check!

There's always a good excuse for a drone flight. Checking the gutters is one of the most utilitarian uses, but still a use.
