My new 1961 VW Beetle.

I recently bought myself a lot of work - a 1961 VW Beetle project!! The car was inherited by a lady from her father, and she and her husband does not have the knowhow to keep it going.

I bought the car for a good price, as the car has sentimental value for lady, she only wants me to restore it nicely and when it is done, she wants a spin in it.

Although this car needs a lot of work, it is quite solid and complete. Through the years some of the original parts has been replaced by some incorrect parts. I will look for the correct parts to bring it back to original.

The wheels was flat, but it kept the air in after we pumped them.

The rear lights are the incorrect ones, as they come from a 70's model. The engine is still the correct 1200 cc engine. The engine still looks quite good.

Here the new - old car is safely parked in it's new home - my garage!! I have slowly started working on the car already, and will keep you updated on the progress.

I hope you enjoyed the post and that you have a wonderful day.

I think it's great when you restore old things and don't let them fall into disrepair. Unfortunately, I have no idea about cars or engines.

I wish you much success with your project

Thank you so much.

I was never a fan of the beetle years back, but they have grown on me over time. Keeping the air cooled motor cool is always a challenge. I also likes how the windscreen washer pump is powered off the spare wheel tire pressure. Simple idea.

I love them, if they are well maintained, they do keep cool, even here in South Africa!!

Thanks for the nice comment.

Looking forward to seeing the progress on this VW. The last beetle I had was a 1955 oval window.

I would have loved a 1955!! I am also looking forward to progress on this one. As I am working full time, I think this will be a 2 year project and that is if I don't procrastinate!!

Now that's a beautiful car!!
I'd go for a baby blue paint job, white interior if it was my project car. ^>^

Thanks, I was thinking to keep it original, thus keeping it red. I think the interior was white and grey, I still need to do some research on this!! Thanks for the comment.
