I decided to cut off the fruit and see how it grows back. This is because it has stopped growing, and the fruiting bodies have turned rock hard. From what I have read the mushrooms are suppose to be soft, so I think these have stopped growing and aborted. Not much of that fishy smell is coming from them any more, so I think its best to take my knife and remove the fruits from the top of the block.
Its hard to do this, seeing all the progress it made. Though for the last week it has stopped growing, and turned hard. Though not is all lost, it can grow back with the right conditions. Though I have a feeling these things need way more humidity than what they say in the kit.
Sucks to see all that work the mushroom put in for nothing. Though its remains will go to use feeding my cannabis plants. The fruiting bodies will break down into nutrients and feed them a little.
I will try again, but I think they need a humidity tent honestly.
Taking one more look at it before taking the knife to the fungi.
Clearing it all off so the mycelium will start growing mushrooms again.
Looking kind of dry, I will add a few tablespoons of water before putting it back by the window.
I used the knife and cut a grid pattern in it, hopefully that will stimulate it enough to make it grow again. I hear these things can flush at least twice so it should have another in it.
Placing all the old fruiting bodies in a cup I will disperse them in my soil so they will help feed my plants.
With a little water added, its ready to recover and hopefully grow some new fruiting bodies. I should probably fold down the plastic back on top until its growing fresh mushrooms.
Honestly I was kind of expecting this, skeptical of growing them so easily indoors. But once my jars of mycelium are ready I hope to try this the proper way, using a tent to keep them nice and hydrated. In the mean time I will just follow the guide again that came with the kit and see if it works.
