Venezuelan traditional games are those games with which many of us have grown up and enjoyed a healthy childhood, those that taught us to interrelate with children of the same age regardless of race, sex, color, religion or economic level; creating great friends and brothers and sisters in life. However in recent years we have seen how these games have been displaced by technology, either by television, computer, cell phones, video games or any other, introducing our children in a lonely world with virtual friends, creating a virtual world that damages the health of our children, which is why as a parent concerned about the health and psychomotor development of my children I have been responsible for teaching and playing with my oldest son Matthias the games of my childhood, as Juan is still small to participate in any of them, but nevertheless I integrate it as much as possible according to the game.
A few days ago near my work I saw some children playing with some parrots or kites, and I remembered that time of my childhood where I spent playing with my brothers, cousins and friends, competing to see which kite could fly higher; I have told you many times that I grew up in a hamlet far away from the city and the vegetation was xerophytic, with prickly pears and cactus everywhere, the challenge really was not to end up with a prickly pear on our body, as the parrot always fell on a thicket of prickly pears hahahaha. It seems unbelievable how we had fun no matter the time of the meal, the sun, the distance or the adversities; there is something very curious for me, previously our parents had to force us to go to the house, now on the contrary parents must force their children to leave the house and see the world of fun that awaits them; of course without excesses and always watching over them, we must never let our little ones play far from us.
-Hilo pabilo.
-Trozos de tela vieja.
To make the parrot or kite I used resources that I have at home:
-Sticks of aloe vera or aloe vera.
-Plastic bag.
-Wicker thread.
-Pieces of old cloth.
-The most important thing was to find light wood to assemble the structure, and as in my house we have several aloe vera plants planted and they produce flowers, which when the wood dries becomes very light, obtaining perfect sticks; take the sticks and cut 3 of the same size of approximately 40 cm and made a kind of star, with the thread tie the center and get a geometric shape of six points called hexagon.
-Then with the bag I lined the structure, to fix it I used the thread, tying it to the 6 points, we must be aware that the bag is well pressed.
--With the piece of fabric I made the tail for the parrot, cutting lines of approximately 5 cm wide and the length of the fabric and we are tying them until we make a strip of approximately 1 meter long; we choose one of the sides of the kite to be the lower part, and we tie the tail that we made with the fabric.
-To make the brake and place the string taut, we open 2 small holes in the center of the kite (with the help of a wire) we introduce some thread, we tie it to the structure. We take the 2 upper ends and we tie a piece of thread to each one of them; then we join the 3 ends of the threads, these must be even and centered, from there we tie the thread roll which will be the taut string of our parrot.
Our parrot or kite is ready to fly and have fun with my little ones, to enjoy the cool breeze that is doing in my city; now my son can go out in the afternoons to fly this parrot with his friends, leaving aside for long periods of time their technological games.
