Travel to Gundaling Hill, a paradise of Cactus and succulents

Hello friends in Pinmapple Community 🌹🌹🌹🌹
One of my favorite places to travel is Gundaling Hill. Gundaling Hill is located in the city of Berastagi, Karo district, North Sumatra province. My family and I often spend time on vacation at Gundaling Hill. Gundaling Hill is one of the tourist destinations in North Sumatra. From the city of Medan to Gundaling Hill, it can be reached in 3 hours by car. Beautiful natural scenery, cool climate and horseback riding are the main attractions for going to Gundaling Hill.

Amazing natural scenery

On holidays and weekends, Gundaling Hill will be visited by local and foreign tourists. Because it is located higher than the surrounding area, we can see the beauty of the city of Berastagi from Gundaling Hill.

As the sun begins to set, from the gundaling hill we can see Mount Sinabung which is erupting. There is an emotional feeling and bond with nature when I see the sunset from Gundaling Hill. The view of the erupting Mount Sinabung looks exotic at sunset. The reddish-orange color from the west adds to the beauty of the scenery around Gundaling Hill.

Equestrian Tourism

Gundaling Hill is one of the tourist attractions in the city of Berastagi which offers horseback riding tours. With only 50 K rupiah, we can get around Gundaling Hill by riding a horse guided by a jockey. If we want to go horse riding with our family, we can rent a Sado (a cart with two large wheels pulled by a horse), we only need to spend 125 K rupiah to rent one Sado.

Paradise of Cactus and Succulents

Even though Gundaling Hill has a cold climate, Gundaling Hill is famous for its various cacti and scullents. We can find many local residents selling various cacti and secullen.

Because of the many variations of cacti and scullents offered by the seller, it is not surprising that visitors feel confused, including me. All these cacti and scullents look beautiful and many of them I have never seen before.

Grilled Corn Snacks

In the late afternoon, when the wind blows quite strong, usually visitors who stay overnight start looking for typical snacks on Gundaling Hill. One of the snacks that are in great demand by tourists is roasted corn. The cold weather accompanied by a fairly strong wind, makes the stomach feel hungry, a piece of warm roasted corn can relieve the cold feeling that has begun to envelop the body. We can buy one roasted corn for 10K rupiah. The corn used is young Hawaiian corn, its sweet and fresh taste tastes delicious and savory when grilled with various spices. Besides corn, we can buy TST (hot drink made from tea, milk and eggs).

The beauty of the lights at night

If we decide to go home for the day and not stay overnight, we can also enjoy the beauty of the city of Berastagi all the way home. Cafe cafe which is open 24 hours, offers a variety of culinary delights that can drive away the cold wind.

Twinkling lights between the thin fog, looks more artistic. I like to look at these lights when I come home from Gundaling Hill. I asked my husband to slow down the car, so that I could enjoy the beauty of these lights longer.

Thank you for reading my post while traveling to Gundaling Hill. All the photos I took with the Realme GT master Limited edition 5G camera

I remember during the height of the pandemic, many people went crazy over cactus and succulents, including myself.🙂

yes because they are easy to maintain and have beautiful flowers @lytha

What s beautiful landscape, and that vulcano😱 that looks scary! You said that the climate there is cold! How cold was it there?

The average temperature on Gundaling Hill is always below 20 degrees Celsius, because I am used to living in the city of Binjai with an average temperature of 33 degrees Celsius, this considerable difference in weather has an effect on me @haastrecht

33 🥵 pffff it's 25 degrees celsius now in the Netherlands and I think that's to hot. I love below 20, sounds like a good travel destination for me😁🙏

Yes you are right @haastrecht
