This is my post for #freewriters prompt not my first rodeo hosted by @mariannewest
I have been a commercial fisherman for over 35 years and the one thing that has never changed is the ability to learn how to work on things. Whether it be a shovel that broke, a motor, nets, rod, and reels, fiberglassing, or making new fishing gear. It never ends. I have learned to do these things on my own because my husband also has a full plate working on all of his things that need fixing. This is not to say he never helps, he does, but I try to do what I can on my own.
Like when the bow cap on my boat started to rot away.
I took it off and laid it on a piece of plywood, marked it off, and cut a new one out.
I mixed some sand in the paint, this keeps it from being slippery.
I bought a new hinge and mounted it back to my boat.
Setting up a new to me boat trailer to fit my boat.
Putting new springs on my trailer.
Or changing a tire.
It was hard for me to carry a full bucket of sandfleas down the beach so I designed and built a bucket with wheels. I am quite proud of this one. I used an old tent pole for the handle, two old wheels that were on a cooler, and drilled holes in the bucket so they do not sit in their pee. I cut the corner out of an old clam bag and put an old glass in it to hold my drink.
So even though working on my motor is the biggest project that I have taken on, it is not my first rodeo.
